Car Park Diversions At Mater Dei Hospital Due To New Imaging Department Works

The Foundation for Medical Services (FMS), in collaboration with Mater Dei Hospital, announced the commencement of construction on a new Medical Imaging Department—an important part of the wider Mater Dei Hospital Extension Project.

As a result, temporary traffic diversions were implemented within the hospital’s car park.

Construction works were carefully coordinated to ensure that all hospital services, including scheduled appointments, continued without disruption.

However, patients and visitors were advised to plan ahead and allow extra time for parking and access, as minor delays were expected due to the diversions.

The new Imaging Department, spread across two floors, was set to significantly enhance the hospital’s diagnostic capabilities, enabling faster and more efficient access to essential imaging services.

This development formed part of a broader national investment to modernise Malta’s healthcare system, improve patient experiences, and reduce waiting times.

The project built on previous infrastructure upgrades, including the recently inaugurated helipad and a newly opened staff car park. Further works remained ongoing to ensure the hospital was well-equipped to meet future healthcare needs.

To keep staff, patients, and visitors informed, a dedicated WhatsApp channel—“MDH Projects by FMS”—was launched to share real-time updates and important notices: Join here.

The public was encouraged to follow all signage and cooperate with hospital security during this phase of development.

Taking to social media, the voice of Big Brother Malta, Noel Zarb, called out all the personal comments, tagging and insults directed at both him and the entire production team.

‘While everyone is entitled to their opinion’, wrote Noel, ‘the personal comments, tagging, and insults directed at me and the entire production team—simply for doing our jobs—were unexpected and, at times, went overboard.’

‘At the end of the day, I was playing a character, just as I do when I perform on television or on stage. And yet, I was called every name under the sun.’

‘I won’t name names, but I sincerely hope that those who threw these words around will never find themselves in a situation where they are subjected to the same treatment just for doing their job.’

‘At its core, Big Brother is a game, and Big Brother himself is simply the figure leading that game. But behind the scenes, there was an army of talented, hardworking people who made this show what it was, people who I am proud to call colleagues, and even my second family.’

‘To each and every one of them—I commend you. Without your dedication, this show would not have been the success that it was.’

Filming took place between 22 and 25 March, capturing the island’s unique charm for Austrian viewers.

The journey began with a scenic ferry ride from Malta, setting the tone for a visual feast. In Gozo, the crew explored iconic sites such as the tranquil Villa Rundle gardens, the narrow streets of Victoria, and the historic Citadel with its majestic cathedral.

Among the culinary highlights was a stunning picnic by Gozo Picnic overlooking Fungus Rock in Dwejra, featuring locally sourced ingredients.

Another memorable scene unfolded at Country Terrace restaurant, where Executive Chef Havi prepared traditional Gozitan dishes—fish soup and stuffed artichokes with octopus—against the dramatic backdrop of Mġarr Harbour.

Adding a touch of adventure, host Silvia Schneider joined Gozo Adventures for a climbing session, offering a glimpse into the island’s outdoor appeal.

Now in its fifth season, Silvia kocht is a top daytime show on Austria’s ORF2. This Gozo-focused episode, supported by the Malta Tourism Authority’s Austrian office, will air on 10 October 2025 as part of a special Malta-themed week.
