Calls For Public To Leave Water For Animals In Heatwave

NGO Wildlife Rescue Team Malta took to social media to remind the Maltese public that, whereas we get to cool down from the scorching heat wave under our air conditioners, other animals do not have the luxury.

We often forget that many animals which aren’t normally taken in as pets do not have the luxury to cool down as they are relegated to the outside world.

‘Bats, birds, bees, hedgehogs and all other animals will be desperate for some hydration’, the NGO wrote. ‘Whether you have a doorstep, front yard, a balcony or roof, please leave a shallow bowl of daily fresh water.’

The NGO also left details for information in case people find one of the animals aforementioned in distress.

For hedgehogs, snakes, bats, sea turtles, chameleons call Wildlife Rescue Team Malta on 99999505. For domesticated animals (cats, dogs etc), call Animal Welfare on 1717 whereas for protected birds, call Birdlife Malta on 79255697. For fresh water turtles (terrapins) contact the Malta Herpetological Society.

Taking to social media, Isabelle Bonnici thanked all those who attended last night’s vigil outside Auberge De Castille in honour of her late son, Jean Paul Sofia.

On behalf of her family and Jean Paul’s loved ones, Isabelle expressed her joy at the courage shown during the vigil, saying that the ‘colour of love was alight through the unity we showed for Jean Paul.’

In a separate post, Isabelle, through the page ‘Għal Jean Paul’, stated that whilst thanking all those who attended the vigil enthusiastically yesterday, ‘if there were any unnecessary comments addressed at the Prime Minister as he exited the building, we surely have nothing to do with it as we had already left.’

‘Obviously, the goal of the vigil was that of love. That’s how it started and that’s how it ended. In fact, I thanked both the Prime Minister and the Opposition Leader publicly.’

‘We remain united only in the name of love’, she finished her statement before expressing and sending her appreciation to those who showed support throughout the entire campaign.

Lionel Messi, the seven-time Ballon d’Or winner, was officially unveiled as a player for Inter Miami in Major League Soccer.

The Argentine received an enthusiastic welcome from approximately 20,000 fans at the DRV PNK Stadium, despite his previous forgettable seasons at Paris Saint-Germain.

Messi was joined by his former Barcelona teammate Sergio Busquets at the MLS side, co-owned by David Beckham. A temporary grandstand was set up to accommodate more spectators for his presentation.

He conveyed his happiness about choosing to play in Miami with his family and expressed confidence in the project’s success.

After two disappointing seasons at Paris Saint-Germain, where Messi scored 32 goals and provided 35 assists, he sought a fresh start. Speculation arose when he was suspended for an unauthorized promotional trip to Saudi Arabia, suggesting a move to the Saudi Pro League. However, Messi declined an offer from Al-Hilal and opted for Inter Miami.

David Beckham, co-owner of Inter Miami, described Messi’s arrival as a dream come true, while primary owner Jorge Mas hailed him as the best player ever. Messi’s first game with Inter Miami is expected to be against Cruz Azul from Mexico in the Leagues Cup on July 21.
