In a video shared on social media, Maltese footballer Caden Tanti shared his heartfelt experience of ‘leaving his family’ to chase his dreams.

The video has him going to the airport and waving goodbye to his family as they watched on from the departures.

The video transitions to his journey to play with Genoa, the team with whom he recently made his massive debut.

His first appearance with the team saw him play the full 90 minutes and delivering a solid performance as the team bagged a 3-1 victory over Pisa.

Tanti was the first ever Maltese male youth to secure a professional contact with a Serie A club.

Ryanair announced that two new routes for Malta will be added, granting access to travellers to Glasgow, Scotland, and Rzeszow, Poland.

This comes with increased frequencies on 18 already existing routes, including Barcelona, Milan, Stockholm and Zagreb.

But that’s not all, as CEO Michael O’Leary announced that an 8th Malta-based Boeing Gamechanger aircraft will be added, representing another $100 million investment.

In 2024, Malta’s emergency line 112 received 408,000 calls, but only about 90,000 were genuine emergencies, meaning just 22% of calls required real assistance.

On average, calls were answered within three seconds.

Minister for Home Affairs, Security, and Employment Byron Camilleri shared this information during an event marking European 112 Day at Bormla Primary School, attended by Health Minister Jo Etienne Abela.

During the event, officials from the Police Force, Armed Forces, Civil Protection Department, and Health Department demonstrated emergency procedures and equipment to students, helping raise awareness about emergency response services.

Minister Camilleri emphasised the importance of using 112 responsibly, as prank or mistaken calls decreased from 57% in 2023 to 50% in 2024. He warned that misuse of the emergency line could prevent those in real need from receiving timely help.

Most genuine calls, around 79%, were for ambulance services, while 12% required assistance from the Civil Protection Department, and 9% involved the Police Force. The Armed Forces received 216 calls.

Minister Jo Etienne Abela stressed the need to educate children on when to call 112 and announced that a national awareness campaign would soon be launched to promote responsible use of the emergency line, which operates 24/7 across all 27 EU member states.

Marine biologist Alan Deidun shared video on Facebook thanks to citizen scientist and diver Gordon Scott who captured footage of an anglerfish at a depth of 30 meters in the waters off Malta.

The monkfish, also known as the anglerfish, belongs to the Lophius piscatorius family, a larger fish species found in the Mediterranean Sea.

The angler fish is a deep-sea predator known for its unique hunting strategy. It uses its bioluminescent lure to attract prey in the darkness of the sea.
