Nov 12 2024 Share

Posting on local Facebook page ‘Are You Being Served? (Malta & Gozo) Original’, Kyle Attard shared the story of how a group of strangers came together to save an elderly man’s life who fell and hit his head.

The victim reportedly booked a cab to his home when after a few minutes later the driver came back seeking help as the man had fallen and hit his head but refused help.

The man offered to take them to his apartment, to which they found the common door locked. One of the neighbours answered after a number of attempts and calling 112.

The group went to the man’s apartment and found him laying on the floor surrounded with blood. He was luckily conscious and was able to respond correctly to questions.

A nurse and ambulance soon arrived on the scene and transported him to Mater Dei.

‘So a big thank you to Jean the Turkish-Maltese who cared to save the life of a stranger and to the Macedonian neighbour who was the only one who answered the door and to all emergency responders. You are truly heroes!’

Taking to social media, European Parliament President Roberta Metsola welcomed the mother of late Jean Paul Sofia, Isabelle Bonnici, at the Parliament.

‘Isabelle personifies the best characteristic of us Maltese’, wrote Metsola. ‘The determination of a victim that keeps insisting on justice; the altruism of a mother that wants no parent to suffer what she suffered; the courage that, despite the massive wounds, justly continued to persist to protect others; and the love of a Maltese that wants to elevate the standards in our country and improve it.’
