Turning 40 years old this October, the gym is a one-of-a-kind in Malta, and is equipped with all the necessary equipment and technology for gym-goers to use.

Bertu Camilleri, himself a former boxing champion, created the gym to encourage all those wishing to work on their fitness, old and young, to do so with the best tools available as well as peace of mind.

Bertu understands that not all women might be comfortable enough yet to attend jam-packed gyms and thus has reserved a space for them to not be ostracised from the world of fitness because of it.

It has been revealed that the Nationalist Party will not hold this year’s traditional Independence Day mass meeting in an attempt to ‘elevate’ the standards of a party activities.

A PN representative told MaltaToday that the activities celebrating Malta’s Independence from the United Kingdom in 1964 will not happen at Fosos but an area within the vicinity and will be quite toned down.

It was also reported that party committees will not be invited to set up food stalls or information stands as per party norm, but internal dialogue will be held to raise the bar of the Independence Day activities. The party’s programme will be made public when it is finalised.

What do you make of this?

Many attempt to catch the flag in traditional Maltese Gostra
Aug 29 2022 Share

Keeping an iconic part of Maltese tradition alive, many brave and stunt-hungry people tried to hit the flag at the end of a long, grease-ridden wooden pole yesterday in Spinola.

Known as ‘il-Gostra’, the tradition is believed to go back to the Middle Ages, and involves, well people running up the pole to grab a flag attached to the end of the pole.

The aim of the game is to grab one of the three flags at the end of the pole: a blue and white one dedicated to St. Mary, a yellow and white one representing the Vatican and the Belgian tricolour dedicated to St. Julian.

The tradition involves the inevitable slip up by most who try to attempt it, leading to not just a unique tradition but also an entertaining showcase for all who attend the yearly event.
