Patients were returned to the Gozo General Hospital after they had evacuated on Sunday evening due to a fire which broke out in an IT room.

The fire was controlled by the Civil Protection Department, with no injuries being reported due to the incidents.

Times of Malta reported that the fire broke out at around 9pm, with 59 patients having to be evacuated.

With five fire tenders deployed by the CPD, the fire was found to have broken out from the IT room of one of the hospital wards. Despite the fire being contained to the room, smoke spread to a number of wards and rooms in the adjacent and hospital corridors.

Minister for Active Ageing Jo Etienne Abela kept the public updated as he established continuous contact with the hospital administration. He went on to thank the front line workers who made sure that no casualties or injuries had taken place.

Various donations for Puttinu Cares as Christmas kicks off in Malta

Various donations for Puttinu Cares as Christmas kicks off in Malta

NGO Puttinu Cares welcomed various people and groups who wanted to donate something special for this festive season.

Ahead of the annual Istrina fundraiser, many others decided to kick off the donations to the NGO who helps many, especially children, in their battle against cancer.

A group of people from Qormi donated a large sum of €1,040 to Puttinu and they did it in Christmas costumes – featuring Santa Claus, Ms. Claus and an elf!

But they weren’t the only ones donating to the NGO as Gwen’s Cooking Club also donated the sum of €1,165 to Puttinu Cares, raising the sum by cooking and selling 50 Christmas Rocky Road Cakes.

‘It was a difficult week’ said Gwen, ‘As I had to prepare, package and deliver them house by house. I wish to thank the parents from the bottom of my heart for the support and patience they show me.’

Such donations are a reminder for many of us to give something special to those in need this Christmas as we can make the holidays at least a little bit better for someone around us.
