Boy Accidentally Smashes 3,500-Year-Old Jar On Museum Visit

Aug 29 2024 Share

A rare 3,500-year-old jar was accidentally smashed by a four-year-old boy during a visit to the Hecht Museum in Haifa, Israel. The jar, dating back to the Bronze Age (2200-1500 BC), had been displayed near the museum’s entrance without protective glass, as the museum believes in showcasing artifacts “without obstructions” to enhance their charm.

The boy’s father, Alex, explained that his son, curious about the jar’s contents, tugged on it slightly, causing it to fall and shatter. Initially in shock, Alex said he couldn’t believe his son was responsible but quickly calmed him and informed security. The museum, recognizing the incident as an accident, invited the family back for a guided tour.

Despite the mishap, the museum intends to maintain its practice of displaying items without barriers. The jar, once used for storing supplies like wine and olive oil in the Canaan region, will be restored by conservation experts and returned to its place. Though the family feels relieved that it will be repaired, Alex acknowledged that it will never quite be the same. The Hecht Museum remains committed to providing an immersive experience, displaying rare artifacts in their most authentic form.

Gozo has welcomed ten children from war-ridden Ukraine for a much-needed week of peace and relaxation, far from the chaos of their homeland. Organized by the Gozo Regional Council in collaboration with several Local Councils and entities, the week-long camp provided the youths, aged 11 to 14, with a break from the harsh realities of war.

This morning, the children explored Żebbuġ, visiting the local church, the town center, Marsalforn, and the Salt Pans, followed by a refreshing swim at Xwejni Bay. They also enjoyed the hospitality of Munxar Local Council, where they visited Xlendi, played in Munxar’s field, and watched a stunning sunset at Sanat Cliffs.

Throughout their stay, the youths participated in various activities, including a visit to Nadur’s adolescent center, a boat tour of Dwejra, and a unique horse-riding experience. These seven days provided a peaceful escape from the sounds of sirens and gunfire, giving the children a chance to relax and enjoy life.

Nadia Yakuba, an English teacher accompanying the group, praised the hospitality and program, grateful for the opportunity to bring the children peace and joy during their stay in Gozo.

Man Reportedly Dies After Being Left In Emergency Waiting Room

Man Reportedly Dies After Being Left In Emergency Waiting Room
Aug 29 2024 Share

The Opposition’s health spokesperson and former PN MP raised concerns on Wednesday about the death of a man in the A&E emergency waiting room after he had reportedly been left waiting despite reporting chest pain.

Adrian Delia and Jason Azzopardi did not name the individual in their Facebook posts, but social media users identified the 55-year-old man as Stephen Mangion.

Tributes starting pouring out for Mangion, with many referring to the claims made by the likes of Delia and Azzopardi.

Azzopardi stated that Mangion sought help at the Floriana health centre and was then advised to proceed to Mater Dei’s emergency department using his private vehicle.

Witnesses on social media claimed that Mangion complained of severe chest pain upon arrival at the hospital but was instructed to wait. Tragically, he collapsed and passed away before receiving medical attention.

Azzopardi described the incident as manslaughter due to negligence. In a separate post, Delia expressed that he had received numerous messages regarding the tragic event.

He emphasized that while he did not want to assign blame, he had long warned about the critical state of the emergency department, which was struggling to meet growing demand.

This is a developing story.
