Boxing Match In Aid Of Puttinu Cares: The Barber Rumble

A boxing match between friends who meet at the barber’s have decided to organise a boxing match in aid of Puttinu Cares. 

Starting off as a joke between friends who met at Aaron’s Barber Shop (owned by Aaron Sammut), the idea quickly developed to become a fundraiser to help many children battling serious diseases like cancer.

With the NGO Puttinu Cares’ support, the matches will be taking place at the Wise Guys Boxing and Intense Fitness Gym, Buġibba. 

Despite not being professional boxers, the friends attended basic training lessons to prepare for the event. With 5 separate matches planned, all proceeds will be going to the locally beloved charity.

Maltese boxer Gail Diacono has qualified for the IBA Under 22 European Championship Finals after beating her opponent from Armenia, Song Harutynyan. 

Competing at the European Boxing Confederation Championships in Montenegro, Gail will now be facing a Russian opponent on Sunday 19th. 

The EUBC is Europe’s governing body when it comes to amateur boxing, and Gail has just secured a silver medal for herself and ‘my Malta’. However, Gail’s sights are still on gold. 

Gail thanked her coach Roland Sammut for all ‘his patience to get to this point. I would also like to thank head coach Gabriele Martelli for his support and all those who supported me.’

Man Threatens To Leak Gas And Cause Explosion In Msida Apartment

Late on Saturday evening, residents of a Msida apartment block were evacuated following a police call reporting concerns about a man threatening a gas leak in his apartment. 

The situation has since been brought under control, and the unidentified man has been transported to Mater Dei Hospital.

At approximately 7:00 pm, the police received a call indicating that a man in Triq Il-Punent, Msida, near the Msida skatepark, was making threats to release gas and cause an explosion in his apartment. In response, the Civil Protection Department, along with police and ambulance services, swiftly arrived at the scene. 

Residents were safely evacuated from the building, and negotiators and medical staff closed off the road to facilitate the man’s exit from the building.

Following the incident, the individual was initially taken to Mater Dei Hospital and subsequently transferred to Mount Carmel Hospital. 

Police spokespersons have assured the public that the situation is now under control, and appropriate measures have been taken to address the incident.

Nicaragua’s Sheynnis Palacios has clinched the title of Miss Universe 2023 after a fierce competition involving 84 country contestants.

Sheynnis Palacios is a 23 year old mental health activist and audiovisual producer from Managua, Nicaragua. 

According to Miss Universe’s Instagram bio of the model, Palacios’ cause this year was mental health, stemming from her own experiences with anxiety. 

‘Coming from a country where this issue is rarely addressed, she started an accessible initiative called “Understand Your Mind,” in which she interviews a specialist on emotional care in her television segments. She has also produced events and other audiovisual projects on this theme.’

As for runner ups of the 72nd Miss Universe, Miss Thailand and Miss Australia trailed closely behind. But all eyes were on Palacios who was donned with the tiara and sash and handed a bouquet of flowers.
