At approximately 11:45 am today, the police were alerted to an accident involving a boat about 1.5 miles off Delimara, Marsaxlokk. Initial investigations revealed that a 46-year-old man from Żurrieq suffered burns when his boat caught fire.
The Armed Forces of Malta and the Civil Protection Department swiftly responded, locating the man in the sea. After rescuing him and bringing him aboard a lifeboat, he was transported to shore, where a medical team provided immediate first aid. He was then taken by ambulance to Mater Dei Hospital and was later confirmed to be in serious condition.
Magistrate Dr. Antoine Agius Bonnici, LL.D, was notified and initiated an inquiry, while police investigations are ongoing to determine the cause of the incident.
