Emergency doctors working at Mater Dei Hospital have reported that many of them have underwent psychiatric training due to the surge in patients seeking help from mental disorders stemming from the COVID-19 pandemic.

Increased isolation, social distancing and overall anxiety as a result of the pandemic may have contributed to the increase in patients. Consultant psychiatrist Maria Bezzina Xuereb and higher specialist psychiatry trainee Emma Saliba told Times of Malta of cases with patients reporting chest pains due to anxiety.

Some cases of self-harm were also reported, with isolation causing depression and loneliness especially amongst the elderly and substances abusers suffering from withdrawal symptoms.

Malta impress again but come out of Russia with nothing

Sep 8 2021 Share

Yesterday night, Malta again gave a valiant performance this time against Russia in Moscow.  Unfortunately the good performance didn’t  amount to anything as Malta lost 2-0. However the Maltese players deserve all the plaudits as they kept themselves in the game and attacked the Russian goal on multiple occasions.

The Maltese team didn’t start off well, as a misplaced to keeper Henry Bonello pass from defender Steve Borg gave the Russians the lead in the 9th minute. The gifted goal did not dishearten the Maltese players as as the half continued, Malta grew into the game and played better sometimes even better than there opponents.

The second half was a better half for Malta. They played out of the back successfully numerous times and even pressed the Russian players, forcing them to do mistakes. Malta had more clear cut chances in the latter stage of the game but their hopes of an equalizer were shattered when the referee awarded a dubious penalty in the 84th minute. The Russians doubled their lead from the penalty and killed off any chances for Malta.

The fact that only a mistake and a dubious penalty were the only things that divided both teams, must be seen as a positive for Malta. A big well done goes to the players who once again has made their country proud.

iPhone 13 launch to happen at Apple’s biggest event of 2021

Sep 8 2021 Share

Apple headquarters is brimming with all the latest tech news and goodies as their latest (and apparently biggest) streaming event is taking place on September 14, which is when the latest iPhone will drop.

The iPhone 13 is amongst a list of new Apple devices, including the Apple Watch Series 7, which will launch at the tech giant’s upcoming streaming event. The event will be held online due to continued concerns surrounding the pandemic, with Apple’s senior vice president Greg Joswiak hyping the event with a flashy teaser video set against a mountain range silhouette.

Apple’s September event is typically the most anticipated one in the tech company’s calendar, which is where it normally launches its product line-up ahead of the holiday shopping season, where it has previously set records for iPhones, iPads and Mac computer revenue.

Send this to someone who is waiting for the Apple event.
