HSBC manager Kenneth Gauci admitted to stealing from client accounts to fund a farmhouse and his exotic bird hobby, leading to his dismissal from the bank in August 2021.

According to a front-page newspaper article on The Sunday Times of Malta, HSBC is seeking to recover €1 million in misappropriated funds and damages.

Gauci faces criminal charges of money laundering and fraud, and HSBC has admitted it cannot establish the full extent of the fraud.

He initially admitted to defrauding six clients, but a bank investigation uncovered that many more had funds stolen or transferred without their consent.

The former HSBC Manager is contesting the main charges by the police as well as the amount HSBC says was stolen.
