WATCH: Birkirkara women’s football team make history in UEFA

Birkirkara have just made history in the UEFA Women’s Champions League, containing a recent streaks of successes for the local football teams.

Two goals in the second half, one by Raina Giusti and another by Charlene Zammit, gave Birkirkara a lead over the singular score by Glentoran as Malta got its first win in the competition.

The team was coached by Jose Borg in his first coaching experience in the Women’s Champions League. He expressed confidence prior the game, despite the defeat at the hands of SFK Sarajevo on Thursday.

Placing third, Borg informed Times of Malta, would show that the team could compete on this stage despite the limited resources.

Suffering a 4-0 defat against the Bosnia-Herezegovina champions, the Birkirkara starlets contended for third place with Glentoran. The latter are nine-time Northern Ireland champions.

24 people facing deportation after being arrested for living illegally in Gozo

Following a number of inspections in Gozo from the Malta Police Force’s Immigration Section, a number of individuals have been arrested and are facing deportation.

During the inspection, the police discovered and arrested 24 individuals from different countries who were residing in a number of properties in Sannat and Marsalforn.

The individuals were reportedly living in Malta illegally and were thus taken to the Police Force’s General Headquarters in Floriana to begin the process for deportation. The Police were assisted by Malta’s detention services while further investigations are currently underway.

Meanwhile, a number of politicians have been outspoken on such a topic, with the Nationalist Party’s spokesperson for Gozo Alex Borg posting multiple entries discussing such issues. Following the Hamrun altercation last week, Borg suggested that “whoever doesn’t have respect for the Republic of Malta has no place here, whoever they are and wherever they may come from.”

If you watched television as a child in the 2000s, you definitely remember the colourful Teletubbies and their pet hoover Noo Noo, but an iconic character that will never escape our minds is the giggling baby sun, who would offer some joy to our screens every single episode.

If the memory of the show isn’t enough to make you feel old, you’ll be surprised to know that that same sun returned to UK television as a 25-year-old woman. That’s right, all-grown-up Jess Smith made an appearance on the Channel 4’s Big Breakfast after revealing her identity to the world.

The original series ran from 1997 to 2001 before a new version came out in 2015 with a new sun baby.

Smith told Channel 4 that she was chosen because a producer from the show happened to be at the hospital on the day of her check-up and asked if there were any ‘smiley babies’ and the rest is history.

Netflix dropping MAJOR feature for users with cheaper subscriptions

As if Netflix wasn’t receiving enough criticism already, the streaming giant’s latest plans will definitely turn a few heads as it is set to remove one of its major perks for users who are always on the go.

In a recent revelation, Netflix said that it will scrap the option to download content for users on their cheaper ad-supported plan, which is set to start rolling out at some point in 2023.

According to Bloomberg, part of the app’s code discovered by developer Steve Moser will not allow downloads for users subscribing to Netflix with ads. This is the latest blow to the streaming platform’s appeal, with Disney+ just recently surpassing Netflix in subscriptions for the first time ever.

Excerpts from the code also suggest that users on cheaper plans may not even be allowed to skip ads or access playback controls whilst ads are running.
