Big investments have been announced by the Water Services Corporation to make Malta’s tap water of a higher quality and taste across all the islands.
CEO Karl Cilia announced that people can soon expect a harmonised drinking water experience from every tape – whilst continuing to enjoy some of the safest tap water in the world.
‘Building on these improvements, the work being done also highlights the Corporation’s pioneering role in reducing the use of plastic.’
It was revealed that, through ongoing investments, chloride levels in tap water have already been reduced by 30%.
Further reductions of 37% are planned, along with additional improvements aimed at standardising the taste of tap water, which is already recognised globally for its safety and high quality.
Meanwhile, Minister Miriam Dalli highlighted Malta’s water security progress at the National Water Conference, focusing on non-conventional water resources.
She emphasised that the country’s National Water Policy has driven innovation and strategic foresight, ensuring water resilience.
Manuel Sapiano, CEO of the Energy and Water Agency, stressed the need for ongoing development in the water sector, especially amid climate change, while also noting efforts to improve water use efficiency and diversify supply resources.
