Jean Paul Sofia Magisterial Inquiry Concluded By Magistrate Marse-Ann Farrugia

Jul 21 2023 Share

The magisterial inquiry into the death of Jean Paul Sofia has been concluded by Magistrate Marse-Ann Farrugia, with the findings reportedly being delivered to the Attorney General today.

This comes eight months after Sofia was killed in a construction site collapse at the Corradino Industrial Estate in Paola. It also comes two days after thousands took to Castille Square in Valletta to show support towards Sofia’s grieving mother Isabelle Bonnici as she continued her cry for justice for her son.

Hours before the vigil, Prime Minister Robert Abela took a major U-Turn on the case, announcing that a public inquiry into the death would be set up.

Meanwhile, Jason Azzopardi took to Facebook on Friday to state the following: “I can confirm that this morning’s inquiry was concluded and was given to the Attorney General. Now you know that whoever said she asked for a 60-day extension was lying. Now you know who was telling the truth and who lied.”

Jul 21 2023 Share

Minister for the National Heritage, the Arts and Local Government Owen Bonnici launched the call for applications for Rock’N Malta 2024. This scheme has the aim to financially assist artists and producers of concerts and events of rock music, as well as any of its subgenres.

Minister Bonnici explained: “The initiative, which was launched back in 2017, has since gained popularity among local organisers and producers who, through the help of these funds, have managed to hold concerts showcasing work from local artists and bands, as well as international artists such as Lordi, Barclay James Harvest, Dream Theatre, Krokus, Steve Hackett and much more.”

Festivals Malta Chairman Aaron Zahra continued: “Rock’N Malta further enables Festivals Malta to reach another strand of music which we do not normally target through our main festivals. Through this initiative, we can also provide opportunities to local artists to showcase their work, which is one of the agency’s main aims. We encourage organisers, promoters, and artists to submit their applications and benefit from this fund.”

Festivals Malta CEO Francis Agius on his part commented: “Through Rock’N Malta, Festivals Malta can further support local artists, organisers and promoters, particularly within the rock music scene. Rock music is quite popular locally and this is evident throughout all of the events which form part of Rock’N Malta, which usually are sold-out or have a very good turnout”

A total of €300,000 in funds has been allocated for Rock’N Malta 2024.

The applications for Rock’N Malta 2024 funds close on Friday 15 September 2023 at noon. Anyone interested in applying should visit www.festivals.mt for more information.
