Bernard Grech calls for urgent PN meeting following internal dispute

Following several posts on social media concerning disputes between former PN leader Adrian Delia and MP Jason Azzopardi, current Nationalist Party leader Bernard Grech took to Facebook to call for an urgent internal meeting.

Stating that the posts circulating could have broken several Nationalist Party rules, Grech called for the Executive Committee in urgency to meet and work on taking the required decisions under such circumstances.

This news comes out following Adrian Delia’s comments on Jason Azzopardi’s Facebook post concerning the libel case he won against Vincent Borg.

Minister Clayton Bartolo wishes best of luck to Destiny for Eurovision 2021

Speaking at a press conference, Minister for Tourism and Consumer Protection Clayton Bartolo wishes the best of luck to Destiny Chukunyere as the 2021 edition of the Eurovision Song Contest draws nearer. This was announced during a press conference in which the Minister confirmed a collaboration between the Malta Tourism Authority and Public Broadcasting Services (PBS). The Minister said that upon meeting the young singer he could see that she possessed immense determination and that her work for the competition shows Malta’s immense potential.

Destiny’s performance of Je Me Casse and the large amount of support it has acquired so far is set to turn international heads towards Malta, with the Minister saying that every opportunity to boost Malta’s tourism economy should be taken. He finally highlights Destiny’s passion for music which will showcase the island’s future and talent as it makes its way into a world post-COVID-19.

8 lions test positive for COVID-19 in Indian zoo

Eight Asiatic lions – four males and four females – have tested positive for the COVID-19 virus at the Nehru Zoological Park in Hyderabad India. The Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology (CCMB) confirmed that the lions have contracted an old variant of the virus and is allegedly the first case of lions testing positive. Following PCR tests, it was confirmed that the lions, which were showing mild symptoms, had contracted the virus and was allegedly passed on from the caregivers at the zoo.

CCMB director Rakesh Mishra stated that medical treatment and instructions to the zoo officials on how to care for the animals and make sure there is no transmission to others. The lions are allegedly responding well to treatment. The whole of India is currently experiencing an immense surge of cases, with 20.2 million cases since the pandemic hit along with 222,000 deaths.

30 COVID-19 cases registered with 38 recoveries

Malta has registered 30 new cases of COVID-19 in the past 24 hours from 1,785 swab tests, while 38 patients have recovered. This information was announced by the official Facebook page of Malta’s Ministry for Health.

As of Wednesday 5th May 2021, 352,421 vaccine doses were administered of which 111,318 were 2nd doses.

To date, Malta has registered 30,411 COVID-19 cases in total, of which: 29,715 have recovered, 416 died and 280 are still active.
