Paris 2024 Opening Ceremony Video Deleted Amid Backlash

Paris 2024 Opening Ceremony Video Deleted Amid Backlash
Jul 28 2024 Share

The official video of the Paris 2024 opening ceremony appears to have been removed from the Olympics’ account, amid growing backlash from viewers. Fans have noticed its absence on the YouTube channel, despite other Games coverage before and after the ceremony still being available. In contrast, full-length videos of previous opening ceremonies, including London 2012, Rio 2016, Beijing 2022, and Nagano 1998, remain online.

Social media users highlighted the video’s removal by sharing a screenshot showing a blank screen with the message “this video is not available.” The Olympics and Paris 2024 organizers have not provided any explanation for this omission and have yet to respond to requests for comment.

The Paris 2024 opening ceremony faced severe criticism, with many calling it the “worst ever.” The event, marred by poor weather, featured artistic tableaus inspired by French values like freedom, fraternity, and equality. However, it was the “festivité” scene, resembling the Last Supper, that sparked the most controversy.

As the backlash grows, viewers continue to praise the London 2012 opening ceremony, highlighting its enduring popularity and the stark contrast with Paris 2024’s reception.

The cigar jellyfish (Olindias phosphorica), identifiable by its distinctive red cross-like pattern, has been sighted in the waters of Xemxija. This largely transparent species, which appears annually at this time, features around 200 short tentacles. Despite its menacing appearance, the jellyfish delivers only a mild sting, treatable with vinegar.

Residents and visitors can safely enjoy observing this unique marine creature. For those interested in more information, visit the downloads section of the Spot the Jellyfish website (Ocean.mt/jellyfish/public).

Daniel de Castro shared this discovery on his social media platforms. The appearance of the cigar jellyfish highlights the rich marine biodiversity in our waters, encouraging both locals and tourists to explore and appreciate the unique sea life in Malta.
