Beppe Fenech Adami commemorates mother’s passing 11 years on

Taking to Facebook, PN MP Beppe Fenech Adami took to Facebook to commemorate 11 years since the passing of his mother, Mary.

‘You returned to the Creator 11 years ago’ he said. ‘I pray to you that you look after us from up above. Thank you mum for your wisdom’.

Mary Fenech Adami passed away on the 8th of July 2011, at the age of 77. Mary was the former president’s wife and was hospitalised after suffering a heart attack and collapsed at Girgenti Palace during the wedding reception of the prime minister’s son.

Mrs Fenech Adami was a former chairman of the Malta Community Chest Fund. She left President Emeritus Eddie Fenech Adami and five children to mourn her loss.

This officer helping a woman cross the road is the most wholesome thing you’ll see all day

A recent post from The Malta Police Force is going viral for all the right reasons after showing a wholesome scene between a local officer and an elderly woman in Hamrun.

The post, sent in by one of the followers of the Force’s Facebook page, shows an officer assisting a woman who found difficulty in crossing the street in Hamrun on Thursday morning due to ongoing road works in the area.

The officer, RPC 3022 M. Spiteri helped the woman get to the other side, showing a more humble side of the police force. The Facebook post states that “This is the Malta Police Force; providing a professional and trusted policing service to ensure safety and security in partnership with the community.”

In 6 hours, the post has garnered close to 2000 likes, with 260 comments and 56 shares praising the wholesome gesture.

Barriers outside parliament to stay until ‘permanent solution’ is found, says Speaker

Speaker of the House Anġlu Farrugia has stated that the metal barriers outside Parliament will remain in place until what they have called a ‘permanent solution’ is found.

The barriers were first erected in 2019 in light of surfaced information surrounding the murder of journalist Daphne Caruana Galizia.

On Wednesday, PN MP Darren Carabott stated that the barriers go against Parliament’s ‘artistic philosophy’, going on to ask why they are still in place. Back in May, fellow Nationalist MP Eve Borg Bonello pledged to remove the barriers, stating that the Parliament building should that of the people and that the barriers should be removed to give the power back to the people.

Speaker Farrugia replied that while he also respects the building’s artistry, there is also a responsibility to the protection of members of parliament and the building itself.

He went on to state that, after a number of discussions with security services towards the beginning of this legislature, the number of barriers was considerably decreased.

In exclusive comments to MaltaDaily, PN MP Darren Carabott said:

“Everyday when I walk by or walk into Parliament, the same thought always comes to mind: ‘I can’t stand these barriers’.

“They go against the architectural and artistic expression behind the building and contrast with the aesthetic beauty of our capital’s main entrance.

“These barriers have been there for these past three years, and from the Speaker’s reply to my question, it looks like they’re here to stay. But until they remain there – they will always represent the detachment and remoteness between us, the Members of Parliament, and our electorate.”

“If our job as MPs is to represent the people, we shouldn’t feel the need to be protected from the people with barriers. It’s a contradiction to what Parliament represents.”

Forestals offering reward for details about man who stole smart watch

Electronics company Forestals will issue a reward for any details on an unidentified man who was caught stealing a stopwatch from their Imrieħel establishment.

In a recent Facebook post, the company revealed that the theft took place at around 5pm, where the man approached the shop with his motorcycle and entered to steal a Samsung stopwatch. Footage shows the man grabbing the device and putting it in his backpack.

The electronics company will offer a €100 voucher to the first person who can provide information about the man in an attempt to seek his arrest. Forestals encouraged the public to come forward with any information to company itself or the Qormi Police Station.
