Joe Carnahan, the filmmaker behind a movie starring Ben Affleck and Matt Damon, is coming to Malta to give a masterclass.

Hollywood director Joe Carnahan, known for hit films like The Grey and Smokin’ Aces, will be in Malta this June to lead a masterclass as part of the Mediterrane Film Festival. The talk will happen on June 24 in Valletta and is open to anyone who wants to learn more about movies.

Carnahan will talk about his 20-year career and his latest film RIP, which stars Hollywood’s famous duo Ben Affleck and Matt Damon. He’ll also share behind-the-scenes stories and tips for people who want to work in film, especially in action and drama movies.

He’s no stranger to Malta either – he filmed part of Not Without Hope, a true story about surviving at sea, right here on the island. He’s expected to talk about that experience too.

The masterclass will include a Q&A session, giving fans, students and filmmakers the chance to ask him questions in person.

Animal Welfare Sees 178 Cat Adoptions in 2024

Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries, and Animal Rights, Anton Refalo, revealed in Parliament that throughout 2024, a total of 178 cats were adopted from Animal Welfare.

In addition, Minister Anton Refalo informed Honorable Ivan Bartolo that during 2024, a total of 337 dogs were adopted, showing a significant increase in dog adoptions compared to cats.

Animal Welfare Malta is the government directorate responsible for promoting and ensuring the health, protection, and wellbeing of animals across the Maltese Islands.

Their work includes overseeing animal care standards, supporting adoption programs, enforcing animal welfare laws, and educating the public on responsible pet ownership.

Malta’s women’s national football team ended their UEFA Nations League campaign with a 0-0 draw against Andorra at the Estadi Nacional d’Encamp on Tuesday.

Having already secured promotion to League B the previous week, coach Manuela Tesse used the final match to experiment with the squad, giving several players a chance to impress.

Despite the rotation and changes, neither side was able to break the deadlock in a match marked by few clear scoring opportunities.

Malta finishes their Group C2 campaign with an impressive record of four wins, one draw, and one defeat, topping the group with 13 points.

27 Hour Charity Swim Marathon In Aid Of Caritas Organised By Birzebbuga ASC

On the 31st of May, Birżebbuġa Enemed ASC organised a record-breaking 27-hour charity swim marathon, setting a new national milestone for the longest continuous swimming event held in a water polo club pool. The achievement was officially recognised by The Malta Records.

The marathon, which ran from 9am on Friday to noon on Saturday, saw 52 young swimmers, aged between 8 and 19, participate in the endurance challenge all members of the Birżebbuġa ASC club.

Swimming not only for sport but also for a cause, the event successfully raised funds for Caritas Malta, combining athletic dedication with community support.
