The picturesque coastal region of Calabria, nestled in the sun-soaked southern tip of Italy, is extending a unique opportunity to young individuals under 40, aiming to rejuvenate its communities and combat a declining population.
Dubbed Italy’s “toe,” Calabria is enticing millennials with a dream-like offer: a financial incentive amounting to almost €30,000 to move there. However, this enticing opportunity comes with a catch – prospective residents must be willing to relocate within 90 days and have a viable plan to initiate a business or fill essential job vacancies in the region’s villages.
The application process, part of the “active residency income” project, targets individuals with entrepreneurial ambitions or skills that are in demand in local communities. The scheme encourages young entrepreneurs to establish businesses like restaurants, shops, or bed and breakfasts, essential establishments that can breathe new life into these small-scale villages.
Gianluca Gallo, one of the architects of this initiative, emphasised the project’s goal: bridging the gap between job demand and supply, thus fostering economic growth and revitalising the local communities.
The financial assistance, totalling nearly €30,000, can be availed either as monthly instalments of up to €1,100 over three years or as a lump sum to kick-start a new business venture. This forward-thinking initiative, backed by a budget of approximately €540,000, is not just about luring individuals to a stunning beachside locale but also about creating sustainable, vibrant communities.
As applications for this unique opportunity are set to open soon, Calabria’s alluring offer presents an exciting chance for young innovators and professionals to embark on a new chapter, contributing to the region’s growth while enjoying the beauty of the Italian coastline.
