Beachgoers at Marsaxlokk bay have been evacuated by the Armed Forces of Malta after reports of the discovery of a World War Two bomb in the area.
District police were reportedly called with a report of potential explosives, with the Explosive Ordnance Disposal Unit going on site not long after, with operations still underway.
It is yet unknown whether or not the reported bomb is just a shell or an unexploded bomb, with unexploded bombs normally being removed without any issues.

Nonprofit organisation and animal activist group ‘Animal Liberation Malta’ took to Facebook to express their deep concern towards the worrying situation at the Duck Village in Gzira.
The activist group shared photos of “filthy, unsanitary conditions” in a particular room, shedding light on the fact that some animals had no water or stagnant water with leeches inside, no food or inappropriate food, rotting pigeon carcasses around the area and a myriad of other health and sanitation issues.
The group highlighted their bewilderment at the fact that authorities inspect the establishment and deem it appropriate and meeting minimum standards, concluding with the statement that they will continue to keep bringing such issues to light in the name of animals’ welfare.
The animals have since been taken to the Sunshine Animal Sanctuary Malta or have been adopted.

A Sliema resident took to Facebook on Sunday to share that he, together with 7 people from different countries, joined forces to clean up Sliema’s Balluta Bay.
He highlighted that the cleanup was possible with “help of, in total, 7 people from countries like China, Italy, Poland, Romania and Russia”, going on to state that the clean up was an amazing experience and a catalyst for further efforts to make such public areas a better place.
Various groups from different walks of life have been collaborating to clean up Malta’s beaches and public areas in order to not only safeguard the environment, but encourage others to take initiative and join in on such efforts.

In an interview with the Times of Malta, Deputy Prime Minister and Health Minister Chris Fearne indicated that while the time when COVID-19 is considered a “mild disease” may be approaching, that is not the case as of yet.
Fearne revealed that it will be a few days until the local authorities are confident enough in easing the country’s health measures as Malta continues its inoculation programme.
With regards to Malta’s placement at the bottom of European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC), Fearne stated that the difference with Malta is the very high vaccination rate, highlighting that 82 percent of adults are fully vaccinated, 86 per cent have had at least one dose, with 62 percent of youths aged 12 to 15 having had at least one dose.
