Beach crowds leave huge mess on Golden Bay

Activist Cami Appelgren uploaded a video to Facebook showing a large amount of trash left on the sand of Malta’s Golden Bay. After beaches were utterly filled with people over the weekend, Appelgren stated ‘To the ‘next generation’ people who spent their eve at Golden bay and left this – I thought you’d know better’.

She added that after 17 hours of work she would not like to end her day picking up this large amount of rubbish. She thanked the few who picked up their trash. She concluded that as park rangers they ‘took the discussion with many people and tried our best to educate and also enforce. But it has to come from [kids] homes as well’ as she urged parents to educate their children.

‘Diamond House’ to be potentially demolished and replaced

The Planning Authority is set to decide on Wednesday 28th April 2021 whether or not to demolish the Walmarville house, also known as Diamond House by Hal Balzan residents. The modernist building is set to be replaced by ‘1 garage and 4 car spaces at basement level, 1 maisonette on the ground floor, 3 apartments from first till third floor level […] and a penthouse at penthouse level including a pool’.

This Wednesday 28 April 2021 the Planning Authority (PA/06555/20) is going to decide whether to demolish this house…

Located in Triq il-Ferrovija l-Qadima, Hal Balzan, the ‘Diamond House’ has become an iconic sight in the locality. Din l-Art Helwa stated that ‘Modernist architecture was introduced in Malta in the 1920s and established a new form of architectural style. Despite a call for an increase in awareness for protection, Walmarville and other modernist buildings are under threat by an increase in development and a lack of conservation.’

50% of Maltese adult population vaccinated

The Maltese vaccination rollout has been effectively administering jabs to Malta’s population, so much so that 50% of the adult population is now vaccinated. 311,559 vaccines, of which 99,574 are second doses, have been administer as of yesterday Sunday 25th April 2021. The rollout has immensely contributed to a decrease in daily cases, deaths and even easing the pressure in Malta’s health care system. Malta currently utilises Pfizer, Moderna, Johnson & Johnson (which was approved last week) and AstraZeneca.

The rollout has also worked closely with the health restrictions which are currently being eased. Caution is still however immensely important and abiding by the measures is of utmost importance. This news also places Malta in very close proximity with the UK’s vaccination rollout as it edges closer to overtaking it.

Comino boat trip causes social media concern

Comino boat party breaks several COVID-19 health restrictions

A seemingly-crowded boat in Comino’s Blue Lagoon has been spotted and made known publicly through photos emerging on social media. The organisation has contacted MaltaDaily and stated that they were abiding by the COVID-19 regulations and keeping the required safe distance and number of people in groups. The number of people which could be in groups together went up to four just today, being groups of two as of last week unless the people involved were from the same household.
