Ħamrun Supporters Raise €3,000 To Have European Match Aired On TVM

Jul 22 2024 Share

Ħamrun Spartans supporters have united to raise €3,000 for TVM to broadcast their upcoming Conference League match against Ballkani.

In a Facebook statement, the club shared that despite their efforts to broadcast the match, a licensing fee dispute between TVM and the agency handling the live transmission rendered their attempts futile.

As a last resort, they collaborated with fans to raise the €3,000, achieving their goal within a few hours.

This situation disappointed hundreds of Ħamrun supporters, who questioned why TVM, a state-backed broadcaster, was unwilling or unable to spend €3,000 to air Malta’s local champions playing against European opponents.

Many fans expressed frustration, pointing out that the state-backed station readily pays licensing fees for the Euros and other international competitions like the Champions League, which do not feature Maltese teams.

The Spartans’ first match against Ballkani will take place this Tuesday in Kosovo, with there being a second leg in Malta the following Tuesday.

Joe Biden Endorses Kamala Harris

Jul 22 2024 Share

US President Joe Biden has ended his re-election campaign and endorsed Vice-President Kamala Harris as the Democratic candidate, a surprising move that reshapes the already intense race for the White House.
Biden, 81, announced in a written statement on Sunday that serving as president has been the “greatest honor,” but stepping down was “in the best interest of my party and the country.” He stated he would now “focus all [his] energies on [his] duties as president.”

Harris, 59, expressed her honor at being endorsed, stating she intends to “earn and win this nomination” and unite the country against Trump. “We have 107 days until election day,” she said. “Together, we will fight. And together, we will win.” While Harris has received endorsements from many prominent party figures, her official nomination may not occur until the Democratic National Convention in August

Meanwhile, a resurgent Trump has taken the lead in polling and was confirmed as the Republican nominee at the party’s convention in Milwaukee this week, five days after surviving an assassination attempt.
Following Biden’s decision, Trump declared the president “was not fit to run… and is certainly not fit to serve.” Other senior Republicans echoed this sentiment, calling on Biden to leave the White House immediately, not just the Democratic candidacy.

Joe Biden Withdraws From Presidential Election Race

Jul 21 2024 Share

American President Joe Biden has announced that after much speculation he will be dropping out of the 2024 presidential race against the Republican nominee Donald Trump.

It follows weeks of intense pressure from fellow Democrats after a faltering debate performance against Republican Donald Trump at the end of June.

In a statement posted on all of his socials, Biden said “And while it has been my intention to seek reelection, I believe it is in the best interest of my party and the country for me to stand down and to focus solely on fulfilling the duties as President for the remainder of my term”.

He also stated that it had been the greatest honour of his life to serve as president and that his partner in crime Vice-President Kamala Harris was an “extraordinary partner”.

It has not been yet announced who will become the Democratic nominee or how that person will be selected, however all current signs shows that the most likely candidate will be Vice-President Kamala Harris, with Joe Biden even endorsing her to be the nominee.
