On Saturday afternoon, Bayern Munich emerged victorious in the inaugural VisitMalta Cup, defeating Tottenham Hotspur 3-2 at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
This match was organized to promote sports tourism, with both clubs boasting large, passionate fan bases across Europe, particularly in the United Kingdom and Germany.
The event highlighted Malta’s name through VisitMalta, with the game broadcast live in both countries.
The match started with Tottenham Hotspur taking an early lead through Dejan Kulusevski, who scored within the first minute.
However, Bayern Munich quickly found their rhythm and responded with three goals before halftime. Dayot Upamecano equalized in the 16th minute, followed by a goal from Serge Gnabry after 30 minutes, putting Bayern in the lead. Just before the break, veteran Thomas Müller extended Bayern’s advantage to 3-1.
Tottenham improved in the second half, with Kulusevski scoring his second goal to make it 3-2. Despite several substitutions and a spirited effort from Tottenham, the score remained unchanged, securing Bayern Munich’s win.
The team was awarded the VisitMalta Cup by Carlo Micallef, CEO of the Malta Tourism Authority.
