Bars and social clubs: who should close and who shouldn’t

Recent developments about the closure of bars and social clubs have caused a stir amongst Maltese businesses due to the licensing of their establishments.

Due to snack bars and kiosks being exempt from closure, establishments registered as such may remain open for the time being. It has been reported that certain establishments are licensed under cheaper licenses.

The Malta Tourism Authority’s licensing page displays a publicly-available list of local establishments and the licenses they are registered under.

Maltese footballer details experience in Belgium’s Pro League

Maltese female footballers having been waving the island’s flag across Europe in recent months and Ylenia Carabott is no exception.

Carabott told Malta Daily about here experience playing with Royal Charleroi Sporting Club in Belgium’s Pro League. She detailed the difficulty of being in Belgium during the current COVID-19 situation and the effect it has left on football. 

The footballer recounted her team’s upcoming derby with Standard Liege and how she hopes to improve her own performance and the team’s results.

Carabott looks forward to upcoming training sessions and games and Malta Daily will be keeping an eye out for her progress.

75 COVID-19 cases registered overnight with 74 recoveries

Malta has registered 75 new cases of COVID-19 in the past 24 hours from 2,946 swab tests, while 74 patients have recovered. This information was announced by the official Facebook page of Malta’s Ministry for Health.

Today’s cases are still being investigated. From yesterday’s cases; 11 cases were family members of previously known cases, 4 cases were contact of positive work colleagues, 8 cases were direct contacts with other positive cases, 6 cases were from social gatherings with other positive cases and 1 case was imported.

To date, Malta has registered 5,760 COVID-19 cases in total, of which: 3,789 have recovered, 56 died and 1,915 are still active.

Edward Scicluna denies allegations of retirement

Following earlier reports suggest the Finance Minister’s retirement, Edward Scicluna took to Facebook to deny any allegations of the matter.

Scicluna blamed the Opposition and its leader for the spreading of such news after praising the success of this year’s budget.
