Addressing a press conference this morning, Deputy Prime Minister Chris Fearne unveiled the measure easing plans for the current month of May and upcoming month of June. Should the number of epidemiological situation continue to see a decrease in cases with no significant increase, the following measures will be put in place;

Restaurants and Snack bars will be allowed to increase the number of people sitting at a table from 4 to 6. Bars and band clubs will be allowed to open up.

Theatres and cinemas will be allowed to open. Team sports will also be allowed with no spectators.

Contact sports for under 17s will be green lit along with summer schools.

Gaming and betting outlets will also be green lit.

Masks on beaches no longer mandatory from 1st of June

Following a public debate on scientific plausibility, masks on beaches will be no longer mandatory from the 1st of June, Chris Fearne announced during today’s public health conference.

Fearne stated that after review, while masks are essential in reducing the spread, they are not practical on beaches and while recommended, this rule will no longer be enforceable by law.

Today’s public health conference revealed a number of measures and easing of restrictions along with a COVID-19 roadmap going forward with the summer season just around the corner.

Gyms, pools & more to reopen on 24 May amongst others if numbers remain stable

During today’s public health conference addressed by Health Minister Chris Fearne and Superintendent for Public Health Charmaine Gauci, a roadmap for the easing of COVID-19 restrictions was announced.

Amongst other measures, Fearne announced that with relevant protocol, gyms will be allowed to open on 24th May, along with pools and day centres. Gym classes and poolside activities unrelated to the pool itself will still not be allowed.

According to the Health Minister, Malta currently has 260 active cases with only 9 new COVID-19 cases registered today. The last time Malta registered just 9 new cases was on July 30th 2020.

Chelsea topple Real Madrid to lock in all-English Champions League final

Following Chelsea’s victory over Spanish side Real Madrid in the Champions League semi-final, an all-English final is set to ensue to ensue against Manchester City on May 29.

The Blues overcame Real Madrid in a 2-0 victory in West London with goals from Timo Werner and Mason Mount after a 1-1 draw in their away leg.

After the whistle, the Chelsea side celebrated a well-deserved win with manager Thomas Tuchel and are set to take on fellow Premier League giants Manchester City in Istanbul.
