Avoid spending more than five minutes on the toilet warn experts

Avoid spending more than five minutes on the toilet warn experts
Aug 18 2022 Share

This might come as a bit of a disappointment to some, but experts have warned that spending more than five minutes sitting on the toilet, could have serious consequences.

A lot of people spend their time on the toilet not actually, well, addressing their bodily duties. Many spend their time on the loo scrolling through their phone or simply to slack off from doing chores.

And even though being on the toilet may be one of the few moments of privacy, experts are now warning against spending a lot of time on the throne as it could have physical consequences.

According to the Mayo Clinic, sitting for a long time on the toilet or really having to strain yourself to force something out can cause haemorrhoids, which can be intensely painful.

In layman’s terms, all the pressure from sitting can pile up onto veins around your bottom, causing a number of health problems. Though some can be cleared given time, others can be more serious and require medical assistance.

Doctors urge people to maintain a high fibre diet to reduce the effort one has to make whilst on the toilet. And if you’re just sitting there killing time, reading this post, it might be a good idea to stand up and try again later.

Heat records were reportedly broken yesterday as Facebook page ‘It-Temp Madwarna’ reported how the heat stress index jumped to around 50°C in Swatar, Malta.

The highest temperatures recorded yesterday, 17th August 2022, were 38.2°C in Ħal Lija, 39.2°C in Ħal Luqa and 38.7°C in Rabat. This is a whopping 7°C more than the normal average for mid-August.

However, the page also reported that the heat was made worse by the fact that there was less wind across the island and the far more humid air than normal for this time of the month.

The heat stress index jumped up to 48°C, with the Swatar weather station reporting an index of around 50°C. The weather page said that this rare phenomenon is considered dangerous for people’s health.

Today, Thursday 18th, is also set to be hotter than usual, but winds are set to switch direction to the north-west, cooling the air for Friday into the rest of the weekend.

Popular Paceville restaurant The Avenue will be relocating from its original spot, bringing an end to a spectacular era of 35 years.

They will instead be taking their exceptional food and family run service to One Portomaso on the 25th of August, promising to have revitalised their name for the beloved community they have created throughout the years.

The Avenue is a massively well known food hub in the Entertainment Mecca, with an extensive Mediterranean food menu consisting of everything from pasta to pizza, as well as house specialties.

Their revelation was commended by many Maltese who recounted back memories of them dining at The Avenue, with even foreigners recalling how they love visiting whenever they’re on the island.
