The National Statistics Office have revealed that during the second quarter of 2024 there have been on average of 63 motor vehicles licensed every day.
It was also shown how in the previous quarter the number of licensed vehicles increased by 765 and that 67% of them were passenger cars followed by motorcycles/E-bikes/PA-bikes with 1,076 or 18.8 per cent.
58.5% of the vehicles were petrol-powered whilst 35.5% of the total vehicles where 35.5%. Only 3.4% of the newly licensed cars were electric and plug-in hybrids, showing how the Maltese population have still not embraced the electric car culture.
However whilst the numbers are still low there has been a 22.2% increase of plug-in hybrid cars (diesel-electric) registered since the first quarter.
On the other hand, 1,666 total vehicles have been scrapped in the second quarter of 2024. The majority of these scrapped cars were passenger cars with there being 1,445 cars scrapped from the roads.
