Austria Break Record For Fastest Ever Goal In International Football

Mar 24 2024 Share

Austria’s Christoph Baumgartner secured the fastest goal in international football history by scoring just six seconds into the match as Austria triumphed over Slovakia in Bratislava.

Baumgartner’s goal came one second faster than Lukas Podolski’s record-setting strike for Germany against Ecuador in 2013.

Baumgartner’s remarkable effort was almost equalled later on Saturday evening when Florian Wirtz put Germany ahead in France after only 7 seconds similar to Lukas Podolski’s aforementioned strike.

However the Austrian goal is not the fastest goal recorded this year as back in February, Ryan Hall of Croydon FC scored an extraordinary goal directly from kick-off during their match against Cockfosters in the London Senior Trophy. The non-league side clocked the goal at an impressive 2.31 seconds.

Austria, who will host Turkey in Vienna on Tuesday, have secured victory in their last four consecutive matches as they continue to prepare for this summer’s Euros in Germany.

Balenciaga has stirred both amusement and bewilderment with its latest offering: a bracelet that resembles a roll of Scotch tape, priced exorbitantly at €3,000 (S$4,400).

This audacious move by the luxury fashion brand to elevate mundane objects to haute couture status is met with a mix of mockery and subtle admiration online.

Unveiled during Paris Fashion Week as part of Balenciaga’s fall/winter 2024-25 collection, the bracelet challenges conventional notions of fashion by transforming packaging materials into coveted accessories.

Worn by a model on the runway alongside a powder blue dress cinched with adhesive tape, the sticky tape bracelet gained viral attention after appearing on the TikTok page of fashion influencer @highsnobiety.

Comments range from skepticism about the absurdity of luxury consumption to playful banter, with some jokingly suggesting alternatives like purchasing from an indie brand called Scotch.

In China, fashionistas are inspired to create their own versions of sticky tape accessories, hoping to capture the trend without the Balenciaga price tag.

While the official pricing remains undisclosed, anticipation builds, with speculations suggesting that the bracelet could command as much as €3,000, further fueling the debate around luxury fashion and consumerism.
