Mar 22 2021 Share

AstraZeneca has stated that COVID-19 vaccine is 80% effective at preventing the virus in the elderly. Following its US phase III efficacy tests, it was also added that there is no risk of blood clots after the rumours circled around the vaccine. The vaccine proved to be 79% effective at preventing symptoms in the overall population and 100% effective at preventing sever disease and hospitalisation.

After several countries had paused or advised against using the AstraZeneca vaccine due to blood clot fears, the US trials included 32,449 participants of which two thirds received the jab. Many countries have resumed the vaccinations with AstraZeneca vaccines.

Europe could achieve herd immunity by July

Europe could achieve herd immunity by July
Mar 22 2021 Share

A EU commissioner stated that Europe might achieve herd immunity against COVID-19 by July. This is due to the incoming vaccines speeding up the continent’s sluggish rollout of jabs. This news serves as a glimmer of hope as other countries have had to reinstate several restrictions as the infections seem to be on the rise. EU commissioner Thierry Breton posited July 14th as a symbolic date to aim for.

He also stated that vaccination is the only weapon we have agains the pandemic as France is implementing lockdown, and frustrations manifested into weekend demonstrations into multiple countries. Despite complications arising with blood clot rumours associated with AstraZeneca, more vaccines seem to be on the way as the battle against COVID-19 continues.
