Spazju Kreattiv collaborates with Art Explora to launch a unique festival aboard a museum-boat in Malta, offering ten days of free artistic and cultural programming both on board and on the quayside.
Scheduled from March 21st to 31st, 2024, at Xatt Pinto, Valletta Waterfront, the event inaugurates a remarkable maritime journey across the Mediterranean, with Malta as its first destination among a series of 20 stops. The Art Explora Festival, organized by the Art Explora Foundation, aims to democratize access to the arts globally.
The festival, hosted on the museum-boat and dedicated pavilions on the quayside, offers a diverse program curated by world-renowned architect Jean-Michel Wilmotte. It includes exhibitions, virtual reality experiences, performances, discussions, film screenings, and music concerts. Over Spring 2024 to Autumn 2026, the museum-boat will travel to 15 Mediterranean countries, connecting artists and cultural organizations to envision a new Mediterranean vision.
Designed by architects Axel de Beaufort and Guillaume Verdier, the museum-boat measures 46.5 meters long and 55 meters high, welcoming up to 2,000 visitors daily. It hosts immersive exhibitions, including a collaboration with the Louvre highlighting female figures in Mediterranean civilizations.
Accompanying the museum-boat is a festival village on the quayside, featuring a program developed by Spazju Kreattiv, focusing on local and international art scenes. The festival aims to engage diverse audiences, fostering dialogue and experimentation while addressing urgent socio-political concerns.
The inaugural weekend introduces “Ocean Weekends,” featuring discussions and film screenings on ocean climate emergencies. The festival also offers cross-residencies for artists and researchers from countries visited by the Art Explora Festival.
Overall, the Art Explora Festival invites everyone to join a transformative journey, uniting communities through the universal language of art and exploring cultural connections between Malta and upcoming ports of call.
