Arnold Cassola Gives First Reaction at Naxxar Counting Hall

In a comment to Malta Daily, independent candidate Arnold Cassola revealed that he found out he was in third place from journalists in Naxxar, highlighting that it is a clear sign that Malta wants something new.

The 70-year-old independent candidate thanked every person who vote for him, before going on to highlight that he has not received any statistics, it is understood that there may truly be an alternative to Malta’s political duopoly.

Cassola reiterated that he doesn’t know what can happen by the end of the voting count as only a third have been counted so far.

When asked if he believes vote inheritance from Roberta Metsola will give him a chance to secure a seat at the European Parliament, he stated that while it could happen, he doesn’t want to make any predictions and remain with his feet on the ground. He also jokingly highlighted how he doesn’t know how many votes Metsola secured, even asking the EP president herself to which she replied that the shares the same amount of information.

Crowds of Labour Party supporters have started to converge at the Labour Party Headquarters in Ħamrun after Robert Abela’s statement that the PL has secured a ‘solid’ win in the MEP elections.

Masses of red shirts, flags, balloons and more have flocked to the PL headquarters’ street as the Prime Minister and Labour Party leader is expected to address the crowds at 3pm.

Prime Minister and Labour Party leader Robert Abela announced the party’s victory, reflecting early indications showing a lead of about 15,000 votes over their rivals.

At the same time, significant progress was reported for the Nationalist Party. European Parliament President and Nationalist Party MEP candidate Roberta Metsola likely secured double the required quota, possibly setting a new record in European elections. Nationalist Party Secretary General Michael Piccinino stated that this year’s performance was the party’s best in a European election, with expectations of winning a third seat in the European Parliament.

European Parliament President Roberta Metsola has arrived at the Naxxar Counting Hall, receiving a hero’s welcome in the midst of a major shift in mood for agents and supporters of both parties.

The MEP candidate, who has seemingly secured a record performance in this year’s election, acquiring what is expected to be double the required quota of votes, according to indications.

In comments made to the media by Bernard Grech, the Nationalist Party leader stated that the party’s targets were not only reached but surpassed, with the gap between the two parties dropping to an expected 15,000 from last election’s 42,000.
