Argentina win first ever Finallisma title after easily beating Italy

Jun 1 2022 Share

South American champions Argentina have beaten European champions Italy with a score of 3-0, to win the first ever Finalissima title.

The game was played under the iconic Wembley stadium arch which also hosted the final of Euro 2020 where the Italian team triumphed over England.

This is not the first time that the champions of Europe and of South America have played a game for the iconic Artemio Franchi trophy. There were two other finals held in 1985 where France defeated Uruguay and in 1993 when Argentina overcame Denmark on penalties.

This time around the win was much easier for Argentina as they comfortably outplayed an out of sorts Italy side who haven’t looked the same since their magnificent summer almost a year ago now. La Albiceleste  managed to score 3 goals against the Italians with the goals coming from Lautaro Martinez and Angel Di Maria in the first half and Paulo Dybala in the dying minutes of the game.

Argentina will now look to build on their impressive form ahead of the upcoming World Cup this winter in Qatar, whilst Italy will have to go through what seems like another rebuild after their disappointment in yet again not qualifying for the World Cup.

Johnny Depp wins court case against Amber Heard

Johnny Depp wins court case against Amber Heard
Jun 1 2022 Share

After a build-up of several weeks, Johnny Depp has won the court case against Amber Heard.

Depp had sued his ex-wife Amber Heard for defamatory claims made in a Washington Post op-ed which he claimed damaged his career. In it, Heard claimed she was a victim of domestic abuse.

Depp sued Heard for defamation for $50 million, with Heard counter-suing for $100 million. In an unanimous verdict, Depp’s court case against Heard was deemed successful.

Therefore, the jury awards Johnny Depp $15 million in damages. The jury has found Heard guilty of defamation and ruled that Johnny Depp has been able to prove he was defamed.

The jury has found that Heard’s statements about her marriage were “false” and conveyed “a defamatory implication” to people other than Depp. They also found she acted with “actual malice”.

4.5 trillion cigarette filters pollute the world’s environments each year

4.5 trillion cigarette filters pollute the world’s environments each year
Jun 1 2022 Share

World Health Organisation (WHO) senior official Rudiger Krech said that in a single year, 4.5 trillion cigarette filters end up in the world’s oceans, rivers, bays and other environmental spaces.

Speaking on World No Tobacco Day (31st May), Krech said that tobacco products are some of the most polluting items in the world, containing around 7,000 different toxic chemicals.

Apart from the damage done to the human body, tobacco products are part of an industry which WHO appeals to in order for more responsible measures to be taken to address the damage done.

More than 8 million people die every year due to health problems caused directly or indirectly by the tobacco industry and its products. The environmental impacts are just as devastating.

WHO’s ‘Tobacco: Poisoning Our Planet’ report finds that the industry costs the world up to 600 million trees, 22 billion tonnes of water and 84 million tonnes of carbon dioxide amongst others. The report also highlights that, despite industry marketing, there is no evidence that filters have any health benefits.

The costs of cleaning up littered tobacco products fall on taxpayers, rather than the industry which is creating the problem, WHO points out – adding to the cost.
