Are Balenciaga and Apple officially collaborating?

Are Balenciaga and Apple officially collaborating?
Mar 7 2022 Share

Following Balenciaga’s show invites and the FW22 runway presentation, many fans are wondering whether their collaboration with Apple is actually a thing that will happen.

Nothing has been announced by either company as of yet, but there are some hints that seem to suggest that this could be an actual possibility.

If we look back, Balenciaga had already joined up with Apple Music, when Demna, creative director of the brand, curated a playlist to accompany the label’s ‘Hello, My Name Is Demna’ merchandise.

This was continued by Rammstein in 2021 when they released limited edition merch and a special Apple Music playlist for the German band’s fans.

Balenciaga is known for its weird collaborations and high-class connections – with associations ranging from everything like Simpsons and even hip hop star Kanye West.

The FW22 collection unveils a knockoff Apple hoodie, with the slogan ‘Be Different’ written underneath the iconic nibbled fruit. However, the Balenciaga x Apple collab is yet to be confirmed.

It could be that Apple is seeking to expand into the fashion industry as artist pullouts (such as Kanye) impact the name of the brand. If anything, the fashion brand could give the tech giant a big boost despite it already being a mainstay.

Temperature in Malta to drop to 5°C this mid-week

Temperature in Malta to drop to 5°C this mid-week
Mar 7 2022 Share

This is a heads up for all those who love to cuddle up with hot beverages next to a fireplace – temperatures are expected to drop to around 5°C by the middle of this week.

Several weather news portals are reporting a mass of very cold air, known as a Siberian express, expected to hit the central Mediterranean.

High pressure over Northern Europe will direct the freezing temperatures towards the Maltese islands from mid-week. The highest temperatures are set to reach 12 degrees Celsius.

The lowest temperatures however are set to drop to around 5 and 6°C, some of the coldest temperatures we’ve had this year yet. In the mean time, the weather is forecasted to be partly cloudy throughout the whole week.

Some isolated showers are also expected at some point today and by the end of this week as well. So this is your cue to huddle up, wear your most comfortable socks and prepare for some chilly nights.

Celebrating business mogul Hugo Chetcuti’s 56th birthday

Celebrating business mogul Hugo Chetcuti’s 33rd birthday
Mar 7 2022 Share

It would have been the 56th birthday of Malta’s best known business moguls and entrepreneurs Hugo Chetcuti today, the 7th of March 2022.

A visionary and key player in the entertainment industry, Hugo was fatally stabbed outside one of his Paceville establishments, succumbing to his injuries on 12th July 2018.

Chetcuti had been dubbed the king of Paceville or the hospitality king as he left a legacy through his work and his family.

Kicking off his business by purchasing Footloose Bar in the early 1980s, Hugo went on to work and create some of the entertainment mecca’s most popular and beloved hubs, bars, clubs and restaurants.

Hugo was father to Luke Chetcuti, who vowed to continue his already well-established and massive legacy. With food outlets offering some of the best dishes on the island, the introduction of the roof-top Infinity Pool as well as a plethora of achievements, Hugo was believed by many.

Rest in Peace Hugo, and happy birthday! You are, and will be, dearly missed.

Woman’s day everyday: hundreds demonstrate for women’s rights

Woman’s day everyday: hundreds demonstrate for women’s rights
Mar 7 2022 Share

Hundreds of women and those who support the rights of women took to the streets of Valletta yesterday to mark International Woman’s Day.

With the theme chosen being ‘Women’s Day everyday: Less Words More Action’, many took to the demonstration carrying placards which called for an end to sexism and violence against women as well as creating awareness on other prominent issues.

The event was organised on Sunday morning by several organisations including Moviment Graffiti, Young Progressive Beings, the Women’s Rights Foundation as well as Doctors For Choice.

With the event attended by several politicians and political candidates, a number of speakers addressed the crowd outside Malta’s law courts. Posting to Facebook, Moviment Graffiti said that this day was not a celebration.

‘It is a day during which we remember the many battles feminists had to fight in order to acquire the rights we today take for granted. The women’s rights organisations argue that joining together to fight against sexism, gender inequalities, gender stereotypes and other injustices faced by women in their everyday lives is of crucial importance.

‘Women are fed up of hearing empty words, and it is high time for more concrete action that will truly make a difference in women’s lives’ the organisations said in the statement.

The demonstration comes just days after Rita Ellul, a 47-year-old mother and grandmother, was murdered in Għajnsielem. 2022 also started with the femicide of Paulina Dembska, a young Polish student who was murdered by suspect Abner Aquilina.
