Archbishop Charles Scicluna has signed the book of condolences in memory of His Holiness Pope Francis at the Apostolic Nunciature to Malta, located in Tal-Virtù, Rabat.
The gesture served as a solemn tribute to the life and legacy of Pope Francis, who passed away just after Easter Sunday.
Members of the public are invited to pay their respects by leaving messages in the book from Tuesday until Thursday, 24 April 2025, between 10am and 12:30pm, and again from 3pm to 5:30pm.
In a deeply spiritual reflection, the Archbishop recalled the words Miserando atque eligendo — “Having mercy on him, he chose him” — taken from the Venerable Bede. These words were dear to Pope Francis and encapsulated his belief that the Lord’s call is rooted in mercy.
Throughout his papacy, Pope Francis exemplified the Gospel through his actions and teachings, always emphasising compassion, humility, and tenderness.
Archbishop Scicluna expressed gratitude for Pope Francis’s unwavering guidance, calling him a faithful, wise, and humble shepherd. “Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord,” he said, honouring the Pope’s enduring spiritual legacy.
