Applications Close For 5th Edition Of Muzika Muzika
Oct 1 2024 Share

On Friday, September 27, applications closed for the fifth edition of Mużika Mużika, organized by Festivals Malta. Once again, there was a very positive response with numerous submissions from composers, singers, and local bands across various musical genres.

Festivals Malta CEO, Frans Agius, stated, “As in previous years, Mużika Mużika has received a very positive response from local artists, with a strong number of submissions. This clearly shows that Mużika Mużika has established itself as a leading festival in our country’s cultural calendar, not only among our audiences but also with the artists, composers, and authors, without whom this festival would not be possible. I thank everyone who submitted their application.”

The process now continues with Mużika Mużika’s Board and the Festivals Malta team, entering the next phase of evaluation sessions by an expert jury. The top 30 songs will be chosen, after which they will be performed live with a backing track before a different jury. This year, 16 semifinalist songs will compete at the festival in March next year. Unlike previous editions, the first night on Thursday, March 27, will not be an eliminatory round to allow participants to enjoy the festival more fully.

Festivals Malta and the Mużika Mużika Board would like to thank all artists for their submissions and wish them success.

The semifinalists will be announced following the live auditions in October. Mużika Mużika 2025 will take place from March 27 to 29 next year.

Xummiemu Campaign Sees Increase In Action To Keep Malta Clean

Xummiemu Campaign Sees Increase In Action To Keep Malta Clean
Oct 1 2024 Share

Following the launch of Xummiemu’s educational campaign, there has been a significant rise in downloads of the Clean and Upkeep app and an increase in reports to the Department of Cleaning and Maintenance.

In August, the first month of the campaign, app downloads surpassed the total from the previous seven months combined.

This update was shared by the Parliamentary Secretary for Public Cleanliness, Glenn Bedingfield, and Clean Malta’s Director General, Ramon Deguara, during an intervention by Division workers in Delimara, responding to a report submitted via the app.

The app is designed to assist the public in reporting areas needing Division intervention and to encourage direct action against illegal dumping, promoting a cleaner environment.

An 80% rise in reports was observed compared to the year’s first seven months, with the majority submitted through the app. Additional reports came via the 1718 hotline (28%) and email (13%).

Between August and mid-September, the campaign drove 1,550 app downloads, reflecting a 250% increase. Since the start of the year, over 13,609 reports were submitted, with more than 93% resolved, many within hours.

“This campaign highlights the strong awareness among the Maltese and Gozitan people about the importance of maintaining a clean country,” Bedingfield remarked.
