This weekend, the Christmas Village will be held in Ħal Kirkop under the theme Gigantic. The event will take place on Saturday, December 30, from 5:00 PM to 10:00 PM, and Sunday, December 1, from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, in the heart of the village. It is organized by the Ħal Kirkop Local Council with the support of the Parliamentary Secretariat for Local Government.
The initiative was announced by Minister for National Heritage, the Arts, and Local Government Owen Bonnici, alongside Parliamentary Secretary for Local Government Alison Zerafa Civelli. They explained that the village will feature various attractions to immerse visitors in the festive spirit.
Minister Bonnici stated, “This initiative highlights how our traditions and culture remain a source of national pride. The village offers a unique opportunity for everyone to experience the festive season in an authentic and memorable atmosphere, appealing not only to locals but also to tourists seeking a glimpse of a traditional Maltese village.”
Parliamentary Secretary Zerafa Civelli noted that several local councils are organizing similar attractions throughout December. A total of 30 councils will host initiatives funded through a special cultural activities grant. “It’s delightful to see so many councils offering free spectacles and attractions for Maltese and Gozitan families, indirectly strengthening Christmas traditions while enhancing quality of life,” she added, encouraging public attendance.
Among the attractions at the Gigantic Village in Ħal Kirkop are a Christmas tree made of milk cartons, stalls selling traditional food, and a special feature that will fill the streets of Ħal Kirkop with snow. The event will also include numerous activities and attractions for children.
Mayor of Ħal Kirkop Matthew Agius Zammit, local council members, and various organizations were also present at the announcement.
