‘RIP Shaun Coppola’, wrote Cherryanne Xaxa Borg. ‘you’ve been one of my greatest clients but above all a very good friend with a heart of gold – still so shocked with your loss. Your passion for bikes, your jokes, the banter in the chair — all of it made every visit something to look forward to.’

Shaun’s brother in law Samuel Micallef also took to social media: ‘My Dearest brother in law…You will always be a part of me. You were like a brother to me. I embrace  every moment we spent  together. You touched so many lives with your kindness and care..You will be deeply missed …Till we meet again.’

Meanwhile, a protest in favour of safer roads was called by Bjorn Grima, urging anyone to ride from Ta’ Qali to Ċirkewwa in honour of Shaun.

May 27 2025 Share

This May, step into history as Heritage Malta commemorates two powerful milestones: the 50th anniversary of the National War Museum and 80 years since the end of WWII in Europe. In collaboration with the National Celebrations Foundation and Festivals Malta, a weekend of free, immersive events will unfold at the legendary Fort St Elmo and the National War Museum.

It all kicks off on Friday, 30th May with As One – A Concert for Peace. Expect an emotional evening blending live music, visuals, and reflection. The night begins with Dominic Galea’s WWII Impressions, followed by stripped-back renditions of anti-war classics performed by Ivan Grech, Maxine Pace, and Cliff Zammit Stevens. Backed by a live choir and stunning visuals, this standing concert promises a stirring tribute to peace and resilience.

Then, on Sunday 1st June, bring the whole family for an open day at the Fort St Elmo and the National War Museum. Enjoy hourly guided tours in Maltese and English, historical re-enactments, hands-on activities, and the rare chance to view the George Cross alongside King George VI’s original letter.

Explore new immersive exhibits, including one spotlighting the iconic Bofors anti-aircraft gun, and look to the skies for a vintage Piper J-3 Cub flyover. Also debuting are three new Heritage Malta publications diving into Malta’s wartime story.

Admission to both events is completely free, but concert tickets are limited. Book yours now via heritagemalta.mt or at any Heritage Malta site. Full details at heritagemalta.mt/whats-on.
