Another Bomb Shelter Uncovered In Mosta

As part of his Trekventures series on social media, sports enthusiast Conrad Neil Gatt shared a video explaining the recent uncovering of a new shelter in Mosta, Malta. 

Conrad and his associate, Matthew, explained that they already investigated the shelter, with two of the supposed seven shelter being uncovered.

Matthew explains that Mosta has around 23 shelters, with the two going on to appeal for the establishing of covers which would leave the shelters publicly accessible. 

Conrad explains that these wouldn’t necessarily intrude on parking spaces and vehicle use, and that it would leave such discoveries accessible.

The winners of the Għażliet Sportivi Nazzjonali were unveiled during a televised broadcast on TVMSport+ and the Malta Sports Journalists Association’s Facebook page. 

The 64th edition’s final night commenced with a Red Carpet event hosted by Lorraine Cunningham and Chris Falzon. Notable speakers included Hon. Clifton Grima, responsible for Education, Sport, Youth, Research, and Innovation, and Sandro Micallef, President of the Malta Sports Journalists Association, along with the presence of AIPS Europe President Charles Camenzuli.

This annual awards gala, organized by the Malta Sports Journalists Association and backed by the Ministry for Education, Sport, Youth, Research, and Innovation, saw 12 distinctions announced during the live show, led by hosts Clinton Buhagiar and Janice Briffa. 

Among them, seven were decided by jury votes, while others included the People’s Choice Award, International Sports Event of the Year, and the new Sport for Social Change Award, designated by the Malta Sports Journalists Association’s Executive Committee, with two additional accolades nominated by Special Olympics Malta.

Sportswoman of the Year – Tenishia Thornton (Weightlifting)

Youth Man Athlete of the Year – Jake Castaldi (Blackball)

Youth Woman Athlete of the Year – Kim Camilleri Laganà (Weightlifting)

Team of the Year – Women’s National Football Team

Coach of the Year – Manuela Tesse (Women’s Football National Team)

Official of the Year – Christabel D’Amato (Special Olympics Malta)

International Sports Event of the Year –  Games for Small States of Europe – GSSE 2023

People’s Choice Award – Sophie St. John (Gymnastics)

Special Olympics Athlete Man Award – Luke Burke (Bowling)

Special Olympics Athlete Woman Award – Nevice Grech (Bocce)

Sport for Social Change Award – Fgura United F.C.

The second edition of The Shed and Abrazo’s Social Run, an opportunity for fitness enthusiasts to meet new people and encourage a healthy lifestyle, will be taking place tomorrow, Sunday 3rd March 2024.

The Shed Malta, a local fitness community, and Sandwich, Juice and Coffee Bar Abrazo have teamed up to provide the island with a chance to bring together as many people as they can together through fitness. 

The collaborative effort has already saw a large cohort of people from all walks of life meet up in Tas-Sliema to enjoy themselves through some intense exercises, socialising and good, tasty juices!

Committee To Carry Out Public Inquiry Recommendations

A cross-ministerial committee has commenced its meetings to execute the recommendations outlined in the public inquiry concerning the death of Jean Paul Sofia.

On Wednesday, the inquiry board – consisting of Ombudsman and retired Judge Joseph Zammit McKeon, Auditor General Charles Deguara, and Architect Mario Cassar – submitted their findings to Prime Minister Robert Abela.

Following this, the Prime Minister promptly announced the establishment of the interministerial committee, headed by Glenn Micallef, the Head of Secretariat at the Office of the Prime Minister, who convened the gathering at Castille.

This committee comprises Minister for Justice and Reforms in the Construction Sector, Jonathan Attard; Minister for Gozo and Spatial Planning, Clint Camilleri; Minister for Home Affairs, National Security, Reforms, and Equality, Byron Camilleri; and Minister for Economy, Enterprise, and Strategic Projects, Silvio Schembri.
