Taking to social media, Alan Deidun shared another photo of yet another nasty, stinging, long siphonophore.
‘The barbed wire or stringy siphonophore (Apologia uvaria)’, writes Deidun, ‘it’s time of the year for this delicate, gelatinous creatures of the deep to rise to shallower waters.’

Just a few years ago, Miguel was battling addiction—lost, stuck, and ready to give up. But with the support of Caritas Malta and a growing passion for fitness, he transformed his life. Running became more than just exercise; it became his therapy.
Yesterday, Miguel known on Instagram as Miguel_Soberrunner—completed an extraordinary 100-mile (161.5km) run in just 22 hours and 55 minutes. “Finishing under 24 hours was a huge personal win,” he said. “This was more than a run—it was a message: no one fights alone.”
The run, held in aid of Caritas in Birkirkara, saw Miguel complete an astonishing 405 non-stop laps, covering 161,530 metres. “People showed up—walked and ran with me, cheered, and supported me through 405 laps of love and unity,” he shared.
This isn’t Miguel’s first feat of endurance. Last year, he ran 100km around the island of Malta a challenge he set as a personal mission.

The 400m hurdles stole the show at Athletics Malta Challenge Meeting 3, with Savio athlete Jordan Pace setting a remarkable new national record of 54.68 seconds.
This impressive performance eclipsed the previous mark of 55.53s set by Daniel Saliba in 2017. At just 20 years old, Pace also etched his name into the Under 23 national record books.
The race was so fast-paced that even the runner-up, Benjamin Salnitro of La Salle, managed to beat the former record. Competing in his first year as an Under 20 athlete, Salnitro clocked 55.19s—also meeting the Minimum Qualifying Standard (MQS) for the upcoming GSSE Games, as did Pace.
The afternoon at the Marsa track was filled with outstanding performances, particularly from the younger athletes.
Zurrieq’s Mireya Bugeja continued her strong season by winning the 800m in 2:10.46, breaking the national Under 20 and Under 23 records.
Pembroke’s Michael Debattista Segond set a new Under 20 record in the 1500m with 3:57.48, finishing just behind Jean Paul Debono’s winning time of 3:56.84.
Meanwhile, Thea Parnis Coleiro broke the Under 18 200m record with a winning time of 24.75s, ahead of seasoned sprinter Claire Azzopardi (25.40s).

In inspections which took place on Saturday and during the early hours of Sunday of this past weekend, 35 persons were arrested for living and working irregularly in the country.
The inspections took place on the Public Transport service, public areas in Marsa as well as during the night in Paceville.
The persons detained hailed from Syria, Afghanistan, Ghana, Brazil, Mali, Nepal, Pakistan, Nigeria, Niger, Gambia, Sudan and the Ivory Coast.
The inspections were carried out by the police, who were assisted by officials from the Detention Services Agency.
All the persons arrested are being held in the detention centre awaiting their repatriation to their country of origin or the EU member states where they have permission to reside.
