Animal shelter calling for urgent financial help as storm risks harming animals’ lives

Non-governmental animal activist organisation MSPCA are calling for financial assistance as a storm coming to Malta soon may risk the lives of many helpless animals.

A recent post published by the local animal shelters read: “The MSPCA is attempting to improve their facility in the hope that funds raised will help towards facing this storm head on.”

The organisation has stated that an oncoming storm may put many animals in danger and thus, is raising funds to accomodate even more animals in new parts of their building.

Anyone who wishes to contribute can do so by visiting their website or donating via BOV pay and will ultimately help in financing new tiles, fans and light fittings, in addition to new tanks and pumps for their water supply.

The Filfla tours will be taking place on Sunday 14th August and Sunday 4th September where Borg, who has been studying the history and ecosystem of Filfla since 1982, will provide valuable information on the island such as where its name comes from, why it was attractive to pirates centuries ago and why it was the target of various bombardments during the British rule of Malta.

Attendees will enjoy a boat trip around Filfla, with the possibility of seeing a number of birds, turtles and dolphins. No one will be able to disembark and visit the actual island or swim around it and, during the trip back, attendees will have the opportunity to swim near Delimara.

Gozo one step closer to having an airfield as consultation period closes, minister says

Minister for Gozo Clint Camilleri has announced that the Regional Impact Assessment related to the Gozo Regional Airfield has finally reached completion.

Camilleri reported that the Gozo Regional Development Authority (GRDA) received no less than 70 proposals, suggestions and recommendations which were carefully analysed and presented in the final document.

The Minister reported that following such recommendations, the next step is for the Ministry for Gozo to submit its applications to the Planning Authority so that the current Gozo Heliport can be changed into the Gozo Region Airfield, “and thus, continue strengthening Gozo’s connectivity.”

The GRDA also stated that such a project carries more benefits than it does drawbacks in relation to Gozo’s rural standing.

Maltese taxi driver allegedly attacked by drunk tourist with brass knuckles

A Maltese taxi driver has sustained grievous injuries after he was allegedly attacked by what he described as a inebriated tourist during a recent lift.

On Wednesday morning, Jd Ed took to Facebook to report that he drove a British passenger from Valletta to Mellieha at around 4am, where the passenger began to smoke and rest his feet on the dashboard. The driver said that he did not speak to the passenger because he was incredibly drunk.

At one point, the passenger removed his seatbelt and started beating the driver with brass knuckles for 7 straight minutes, with the driver only able to honk his horn because he had his safety belt on. The driver was left bloodied and bruised as a result.
