Compared to 2021’s first quarter, the amount of people staying in hotels and similar establishments increased by around 60,000 between April and June. Statistics released by the National Statistics Office (NSO) show how the number of people who stayed in hotels in the second quarter of this year reached up to 143,773. Compared to the same quarter of last year, the increase is more notable given that the pandemic hit in the first few months of 2020.
In between April and June of 2020, there were only 17,157 people staying in accommodation establishments. The number of nights between the second and first quarter of this year also increased by almost double of last year’s. A total of 305,114 nights were spent in hotels in between January and March of 2021, whilst a total of 596,740 nights were spent in between April and June. 2020 saw only 64,185 nights spent in these establishments in between April and June.
