Alexander Satariano was the standout winner at the MFPA Awards 2025, claiming a historic treble as he became the first player to win both the MFPA Men’s Best Player and Best Young Player awards in the same year, alongside a place in the Men’s Best XI.
The 23-year-old Birkirkara FC captain was recognised for a stellar season, helping his team reach the Premier League final and FA Trophy semi-finals.
In the women’s category, Swieqi United’s Shona Zammit secured her second MFPA Women’s Best Player award after leading her club to their first league title. She was also selected in the Women’s Best XI. Nicole Sciberras of Hibernians retained the MFPA Women’s Best Young Player award.
A total of 36 awards were presented during the ceremony held on May 12 at the Radisson Blu Golden Sands Resort. All these awards were voted by the players themselves.
Floriana had the most players in the Men’s Best XI, while Swieqi United dominated the Women’s Best XI.
In the Challenge League, Valletta’s Brandon Paiber won Best Overall Player, while his teammate Timothy Aquilina and Żurrieq’s Darren Borg and Sulahmana Bah also received honours. The amateur awards went to Julian Azzopardi (Birżebbuġa St Peter’s) and Rondinely Monteiro (Victoria Hotspurs).
A special tribute was paid to Dorianne Theuma, who received the MFPA Merit Award and was named Best Women’s Coach after leading Swieqi to the title. Theuma, Malta’s first female player to earn 100 caps, retired last year to pursue coaching. Paul Zammit of Sliema Wanderers was awarded ‘Best Coach’ of the season.
