Air pollution increase following school reopening

Environment and Resources Authority informed TVM that at an increase in air pollution has been noted following the reopening of schools. This was in fact preceded by a decrease in air pollution as the main source of air pollution, traffic, drastically decreased.

Utilising analysis of information collected by air monitoring stations ERA has located in three localities, the organisation concluded that the level of nitrogen dioxide, which is the main culprit behind pollution, increased considerably mid-October.

Official Nadine Mercieca explained how ‘when we speak about the months of the year: from January to March, the level of pollution remained stable, but in April we began to see an increase compared with April 2020, but it still has not reached the levels of 2019.’ She added; ‘the level of pollution reflects the amount of traffic and its influx.’

Love Island set for June 2021 as construction begins

Following fears due to the COVID-19 pandemic, fans of Love Island were in doubt as to whether the series would make a return in 2021. However it seems as though lovers of the reality show will be getting their favourite series back for another run in 2021. At first, speculation arose that the stars would settle for a staycation in England rather than abroad, but ITV has given the green light for filming to happen in the iconic villa.

Photos of builders setting to work have emerged, accompanied by long lists of rules printed on boards across the construction site as COVID-19 still remains a very real issue. June is also planned to be the month when the series kicks off, so fans will not have to wait as long.

Over 35,000 non-Maltese people vaccinated in Malta

Deputy Prime Minister and Health Minister Chris Fearne confirmed on Tuesday that over 35000 non-Maltese people have received their jab in Malta and contributed to Malta’s successful rollout and herd immunity achievement. The statistic was revealed whilst responding to parliamentary questions posed by PN MP Ivan Bartolo.

Fearne revealed the exact total as being 35,627 non-Maltese people having received at least their first dose so far. Non-Maltese people are eligible to receive their jab only if they hold a residence permit or are in the process of acquiring one. 42% of the entire population is fully vaccinated so far as the rollout continues.
