Nationalist MP and former PN leader Adrian Delia has issued an open letter to President of Malta George Vella to ‘follow his conscience’ and not give into the choices which will make him ‘an accomplice to shortcomings’.

“As a doctor who swore to save lives, as President of the Republic, as a trustee of the constitution, stay strong, do not fear, do not follow anyone and anything and do not abdicate from your noble responsibility.”

Delia also stated that, speaking for himself and many of his colleagues, Vella’s stance on abortion is why they were in agreement on Vella’s pledge to be nominated as President, which was unanimously approved by Parliament.

Earlier today, Nationalist Party Leader Bernard Grech described this law as  ‘the law that opens wide – not just slams the door to abortion’ calling on the government to change its mind.

Fundraising activity for man who suffered paralysing sport injury set for 14th December
Dec 1 2022 Share

A fundraiser has been launched to raise money for Andrea Calleja, who suffered paralysing injuries during a sports challenge gone wrong.

Calleja, known by his loved ones as ‘Batman’, suffered injuries to his back and neck, leading to total paralysis.

However, Calleja’s strong will has shone through after he recently managed to start breathing on his own without the use of a ventilator as well as using his right hand.

As he continues to combat the injuries he suffered, the 30-year-old requires a lot of therapy and must also travel abroad to a rehabilitation facility outside the island. This of course comes with a lot of financial weight.

The fundraiser has been created to help Calleja, with a Facebook page which promotes the fundraiser and keeps people up to date as to Calleja’s journey established.

As part of their fundraising campaign, the organisers are setting up an activity on the 14th of December called ‘The Dark Knight Rises’, after the film based around Calleja’s favourite super hero.

Activist files lawsuit against Jason Azzopardi over Prudente claims

Activist files lawsuit against Jason Azzopardi over Prudente claims
Dec 1 2022 Share

Women’s Rights Foundation activist and lawyer Dr Lara Dimitrijevic has filed a lawsuit against former PN MP Jason Azzopardi over claims he made about Andrea Prudente.

In a Facebook post, Azzopardi claimed that Andrea Prudente, along with husband Jay Weeldreyer, had been purposefully brought to Malta so that her failed pregnancy could create scandal over abortion in Malta.

The claims were also made by academic Simon Mercieca, who is also facing a lawsuit by Dimitrijevic. This comes just one day after the first debate on the amendment to Malta’s criminal code.

This would allow doctors to carry out a termination when a pregnancy poses a danger to the mother’s life or health.

Dimitrijevic also took to Facebook to slam comments made by Bernard Grech during his speech in parliament for taking Prudente’s name and mocking it. ‘Shame on you and the very least you can do, if you have a shred of human decency, is to apologise for your insensitivity and below the belt comments.’
