The post reported that the fridges were dumped over the edge of the cliff and on the coastline, with the Zibel team collecting them soon after. A post on Zibel’s social media highlighted how, apart from the fridges’ metal and plastic parts, they also contain chemicals and materials that are harmful to human and marine life.

“Aside from the fact that a beach is no place to dump anything after all”, the social media post concluded.

The organisation is no stranger to environmental clean-ups and awareness efforts, recently also organising the famed ‘KAXXA’ at the Balzan village feast, encouraging attendees and passers-by to dispose of their plastic bottles in the recycled structure.

Pope Francis advises young people to eat less meat for environment

Jul 15 2022 Share

In a letter to participants at the EU Youth Conference in Prague this week, Pope Francis has advised young Europeans to eat less meat in order to help the environment.  He stated that meat was a luxury and an environmental problem and invited his young audience to choose a life of “dignity and sobriety.”

He continued on by saying “There is an urgent need to reduce the consumption not only of fossil fuels but also of so many superfluous things,” and “In certain areas of the world, too, it would be appropriate to consume less meat: this too can help save the environment.”

This last sentence is quite significant as Pope Francis is from Argentina, the country where people consume the most meat in all of South America and is one of the biggest beef producers globally.

According to many, Pope Francis is the most progressive pope the Vatican has ever seen and that is why the organization Million Dollar Vegan  asked him to abstain from eating any meat in Lent of 2019.

However it was reported that the Pope did not give up meat that Lent but Paolo Borgia, a senior priest, did talk on his behalf saying : “[Pope Francis] appreciates the concerns and care for the world, our common home, which prompted you to write to him.”

Abner Aquilina admits to killing and raping Paulina Dembska; “I only carried out 33% of the plan.”

Jul 15 2022 Share

In this morning’s compilation of evidence against 20-year-old Abner Aquilina, who is accused of raping and killing 29-year-old Paulina Dembska in Sliema, admitted to his heinous crimes six months ago.

The case remains ongoing, but Aquilina revealed that his plan was to kill 3 people and ended up chasing 2 men before approaching Dembska. In a conversation with Aquilina, which was recorded on Police body camera, he stated that “It was a one-time thing. [He] only carried out 33 per cent of the plan.”

This is also the first time Paulina’s family are present in the court proceedings.

Back in June, court experts determined that the accused is not mentally stable to be examined by a jury on the claims made against him, with three psychiatrists declaring that Aquilina was probably in a state of insanity when committing the major crimes.

The psychiatrists stated that the accused faced delusions and emotions expressed in his behaviour, based on what was stated by Aquilina himself on 2nd January.

More on this story as it develops.
