Today’s public holiday of the Immaculate Conception (8th December 2021) is set to be one with slightly cloudy skies, albeit with dropping temperatures.

It’s still set to be slightly windy however, with temperatures feeling like 18°C, possibly dropping to a low 12 degrees Celsius.

Winds are also set to kick off at a force 5 and going up to 6. The weather is forecasted to bring in rain showers as the week goes on however, with Wednesday giving us a brief break from both work and storms.

Half of stopped Maltese drivers under the influence of alcohol
Dec 7 2021 Share

It was revealed that half of all drivers stopped by police during first ten months of 2021 were under the influence of alcohol.

The inspector in charge of the traffic section confirmed this with TVM about the risk of driving under the influence.

Inspector Nicholas Vella stated that around 50% of people who were stopped to check tested positive for alcohol intoxication.

Only 25% were found not driving under the influence of alcohol. He did not clarify the state with regards to the remaining percentage which were also stopped.

Police inspections are set to increase during the festive season, in hopes of ensuring that accidents and risks are reduced.

Under Maltese law, the current limit for drinking and driving is 0.5g/l for regular driver and 0.2g/l for motorcyclists, taxi driver and other specialist drivers.

This is equivalent to one small beer for the former and half a shot for the latter.

He was a Prime Minister whose assumption of office proved a massive challenge as the COVID-19 pandemic kicked off a mere few months after he took on the role.

His wife Lydia Abela took to Instagram to wish him a happy birthday, referring to him as being her best half and best friend. Father of Georgia May, Abela took on the role of PM after the resignation of Joseph Muscat.

The highest temperature recorded today was just 13.4°C

Today’s highest temperature recorded at just 13.4 degrees Celsius, which is around 5°C lower than the average for this time of year.

With rain showers bringing even hail to the islands, the temperature dropped to below 10°C.

Temperatures are set to feel between 12 and 18°C, so its set to be a freezing week ahead. Considering the fact that Malta just emerged from heat wave after heat wave, this weather might be a breath of fresh air… literally.

However with such temperatures also comes the likelihood of rain showers and thunder storms. A thundery shower is forecasted for Saturday, kicking off the weekend with a tempest.
