As part of their electoral manifesto, the Labour Party has pledged to give Junior College a complete revamp to address various needs in the educational sector of today.

The party plans on revamping the college by creating an environment with better educational opportunities as well as ‘an active student life.’ Lecture rooms are to be modernised, along with the common rooms and lecture rooms, with new libraries being built.

Multi-purpose halls, multi-faith rooms, new art studios and recording facilities for theatre and performing arts are all part of Labour’s newest pledges. The party also pledged a student village which incorporates student organisations and Youth Hub.

In their manifesto, which was just released, the party said that the college must be able to offer programmes up to MQF level 5 which can take students to new career opportunities. This, the party said, would work hand in hand with the main focus of preparing youth for University.

Could Malta become the next Dubai? Labour’s land reclamation pledge

Could Malta become the next Dubai? Labour’s land reclamation pledge
Mar 11 2022 Share

Unveiling their new manifesto, the Labour Party insisted that land reclamation is essential for a small country such as Malta.

Therefore, the party has revealed that, following years of discussion and study, the authorities will see to it that these projects can move forward and are of benefit to Malta as a whole.

Land reclamation is the process of creating new land by raising the elevation of a waterbed or low-lying land or even by the pumping out of water from muddy morass areas.

The prospect of land reclamation is not new in Malta as the Marsa Sports facilities sit on reclaimed land, with the sea originally reaching inland as far as Qormi. Msida and the Freeport in Birzebbuga are another example of land reclamation in Malta.

Back in 2020, ERA confirmed that analysis of land reclamation sites are still underway after it had been tasked by the government to identify potential sites which could be considered for land reclamation projects.

A year earlier, six main sites had been identified – the Mgarr harbour in Gozo, Bugibba and St Paul’s Bay waterfront, Qalet Marku, Portomaso to Xghajra, the ground area off Xghajra and the Marsaxlokk Harbour area.

It remains to be seen which areas will be used following the manifesto unveiling. Read manifesto here
