Another night of inspections on Maltese roads saw various local entities coordinating together to surveil the adherence to law related to driving, prohibited substances and immigration, amongst others.
In a large number of inspections, it was found in the absolute majority of those stopped that they were adhering to the law, with those not doing so having to face immediate consequence.
The work was coordinated between the police corps, Transport Malta, and LESA. Due to the inspections related to immigration, the Detention Services Department also played a role in the surveillance efforts.
During the night in question (25th of August to 26th of August 2023), 267 vehicles were stopped in various roads, most notably in Furjana and Valletta.
Searches on vehicles, breathlyzer tests, Y-plate inspections, document verifications and residence permit checks for irregular immigration were carried out. The rule breaking discovered varied from license-less driving and simple drug possession.
The entities in question appeal to the public to adhere to the law so that our roads are more secure. The work shall be continuing, a statement by the entities stated.
