Marine biologist Alan Deidun recently shared a fascinating video of a Mediterranean stargazer, locally known as “żondu,” spotted at a depth of 36 meters in Maltese waters. The stargazer, identified as Uranoscopus scaber, is known for its unique upward-facing eyes and distinctive grumpy appearance.
The footage, captured by Gordon Scott, showcases this elusive species in its natural habitat. Deidun expressed his gratitude to Scott for sharing the clip, which provides a rare glimpse of marine life beneath Maltese seas. The stargazer is one of several intriguing species inhabiting the Mediterranean.
