A tree-planting event in Gujranwala has just secured a spot on the Guinness World Records registry after the Pakistani city managed to plant a whopping 52,040 plants in just 60 seconds.

12,500 students gathered to plant the thousands of tree saplings in an area between Rawalpindi and Chand Ka Qila bypass in Pakistan with 47 drone cameras recording the monumental event.

Aide to the Prime Minister on Climate Change Malik Amin Aslam stated that the people have given a gift to Pakistani on its 74th Independence day, going on to highlight that 14th August should be remembered as Green Pakistan Day. He appealed to the public that everyone should plant at least on tree on this day as he praised the city’s residents for the environmentally conscious effort.

94 COVID-19 cases registered overnight with 120 recoveries

Malta has registered 94 new cases of COVID-19 in the past 24 hours from 3,598 swab tests, while 120 patients have recovered. One death was registered in the past 24 hours. This information was announced by the official Facebook page of Malta’s Ministry for Health.

As of Friday 13th August 2021, 783,983 vaccine doses were administered of which 407,679 were 1st doses. 404,213 people are currently fully vaccinated.

To date, Malta has registered 35,286 COVID-19 cases in total, of which: 33,764 have recovered, 430 died and 696 are still active.

Mater Dei Hospital is currently treating a total of 38 COVID-19 positive patients, four of whom are in the ITU.

69 Maltese contractors to receive government grants for new machinery

The developers’ lobby has revealed that over two out of every three applicants for government grants will be able to purchase machinery which is more environmentally-friendly.

The Malta Developers Association welcomed the news that 69 applicants out of a total 94 have qualified for funding from a €4 million cash grant scheme which will allow companies to change dated machinery with low-emission replacements.

Grants can go up to €200,000 and companies which buy hybrid equipment may claim as much as half of their costs in an attempt to cut the construction industry’s carbon footprint.

“I am sure that this will motivate more companies to undertake similar investments. As MDA we fully support any similar initiatives as it is only through such measures that we can start making a real difference together”Í MDA vice-president Denise Micallef Xuereb noted.
